Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on March 9, 2021March 9, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 PAT’S GOT SASS was a better trial than Policiere (winner of 2 races and jumped favourite in the Listed Supremacy Stakes). Her 400m jump out was excellent when attacking the line under a chokehold and then went past Policiere impressively over 950m. Kept safe in Karrakatta Plate betting suggests the regard in which she is held and she is drawn ideally to score on debut. WARPIPES went alright on debut but that form now looks red hot with Pixie Chix and Liwa running the quinella in the Supremacy Stakes on Sunday. DEFENDING got completely chopped out at trials and then picked herself up brilliantly to flash late. Impressive display from an unraced youngster. SHEZACLASSYCHIX chased Snipparoochy at trials when last in work. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – PAT’S GOT SASS WIN RACE 2 POUAKAI didn’t fire a solitary shot on debut but can be forgiven, as many horses simply don’t handle the straight 1000m racing at Pinjarra Park. Her previous trial was strong and from the draw she can towball speedy mare It’s Tiffs who is likely to take her well into the straight. Looks much better suited here and an eachway chance in an open maiden. THE FIBONACCI and FAMOUS JURNEY are both double nominated and both stables are probably sweating on the decision of the other to scratch or run. Both trialled together and both were equally as impressive. IT’S TIFFS is a jump and run 1000m mare who will pinch one eventually. Numbers: 11 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – POUAKAI EACHWAY RACE 3 MISS CONTEKI looks like extending the run that Simon Miller’s stable is currently enjoying. She is lightly raced, highly progressive and trialled the house down. Once let go by Faithfull in the straight she lengthened brilliantly to gobble them up and charge through the line. She’ll be short but she should be saluting for favourite punters. REQUISTION is flying and has been in form for months. Form from last start has held up through Westernize. LORDING is taking on tougher opposition but does look better suited back to 1000. STABLE SECRET always a blow out chance in this grade. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – MISS CONTEKI WIN RACE 4 CASTILLO DEL LAGO drops out of the Listed Lex Piper stakes at 1600m where he was well supported to cause the upset but was simply no match for Western Empire. Faded badly late in the race but did run them along in the middle stages (first 1000m 5L faster than average) and looks well suited both back in grade and back in trip. Chris Parnham should fire him straight to the top and he’ll take running down. NOBEL LAURENCE looks the logical danger on paper. Resumed in a 1200m when pulling late ground off subsequent Saturday winner Hot Zed. Looks a progressive type. MYSTERY MAN will need some luck from the draw. SPEEDBIRD an improver. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – CASTILLO DEL LAGO WIN RACE 5 AXEL ‘R’ EIGHT is a very hard horse to get past when he is able to control the tempo. Mitch Pateman should have no worries in crossing Friar Away and Doc Friar to find the top and then doesn’t look like copping any real pressure from anything to his outside. Darren McAuliffe has always said he’ll stay all day and would be the kind of horse who could see out 2 miles so he’s the one they all need to run down. QUEEN TAKES KING drops back in grade from a 60+ Graduation where she went round favourite. Drawn another tough draw and will need something to take her into it. FINAL CHILL takes on a much more talented pair than last start when pushing Indominus. Going well but this is harder. REGENT STAR will need a soft run. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – AXEL ‘R’ EIGHT WIN RACE 6 FIERY BAY was impressive late at his last outing. Stewards report made for interesting reading and purely on face value he should be better suited drawing a gate where he can sit midfield with cover and then pull to the outside. Hit the line well and all his runs this time in have been good enough to win this race. LUCKY HEART ran a ripper last start when doing a power of work in the early and middle stages. Drawn a similar gate but looks to be far less speed drawn to his inside in this race. GENERAL GRANT found a second wind in the final 100 and does look a live chance. WINSALOT sailed straight past moderate opposition at her most recent. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – FIERY BAY WIN RACE 7 KING CRUZER seems to have found his feet in the last month. His maiden win was arrogant when striding away from them on the corner and still winning soft after Shaun O’Donnell dropped his whip turning for home. Went from a maiden into a Saturday race and after missing the kick fired up and pulled himself three deep around them and ended up in a horrible position in running. Thought he did a super job to finish as close as he did and this is a weaker race. GREAT CHARADE ran well at his return to the metro area. DIAPARA won off a similar spacing going back only three starts. CALAG comes up in grade from a C1 but finds a moderate C3. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – KING CRUIZER EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3 1,2 5,6,7,8 2,3,5,6,8 Market Market
