Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on July 22, 2025July 22, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TALKAWAY has found a nice assignment albeit from another tricky alley. First-up finished half a length off Scenic George and subsequent winners Setagaya and Diamondsnrubies and sencd-up drew barrier 9/14 and ended up in an awkward spot when third behind Return Of The Mach and Rock The Market. This looks winnable with the right run. THE SCHOLAR has trialled up well on a few occasions now and hails from a strong strike rate yard. MIDNIGHT STAR was a bit disappointing last start, back to 1300m suggests they don’t think she saw out the trip? YOU CAN CALL ME AL has raw ability and now a set of shades. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – TALKAWAY WIN RACE 2 NINE BALL won her barrier trial beating home Bulletin Beau and hopefully he can frank that form on Wednesday at Pinjarra Park at his return to racing. This filly went into a 3 year old 0MWLY on debut and finished second to Masterly before being tipped out. Into a maiden with the same weight and looks a map where she can lead and dictate (and get herself to the outside fence if required!). ROMANCE CALLING is a 2 year old filly taking on the older horses and gets in with only 53.5kg. TOSCANO trialled up well for his return. RARE HONOUR has been solid in both outings this prep Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – NINE BALL WIN RACE 3 BRING ME A FROTHY won her barrier trial but against what looked fairly limited opposition. The second career outing behind Aces To Win over 1500m was highly encouraging and while she’s drawn barrier 1 it might be an opportuinity to settle midfield and then weave her passage away from the fence (if need be). Simon Miller is dominating Northam and expect Thursday will be no different. DELTA LASS showed glimpses last prep but was beaten a long way first-up. CHAMPAGNE CRUSADER got to the line well over 1200m and gets in with 55.5kg as a 2 year old. MYSTACHEENO a watch in shades. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – BRING ME A FROTHY WIN RACE 4 SHERPA EXPRESS made his debut in a Saturday 2 year old event when third behind Twisted Steel (undefeated) and Paint It Red (well supported and won at Bunbury on Saturday). Drops 1.5kg into an all age maiden and looks hard to beat. PROFOUND BENEFIT started his career in NSW (after a series of trials in WA in 2023) but has now made his way back to the West and has his second preparation for Adam Durrant. SPARE A PRAYER only folded up late first-up at 1200m and comes back in trip to suit. BRADBURY’S MOMENT had no luck last start. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – SHERPA EXPRESS WIN RACE 5 ANKAREEDA is another wonderful ride for Willie Pike on a day where he’s likely to be $1.05 in the Jockey Challenge. This filly finished third on debut behind Ranyx (since won a C1) and then was held up at stages in the home straight second-up while the eventual winner Diamondsnrubies was off and gone with a full head of steam. Hard to beat out to 1600m. THINK QUICK has finished behind her in both those recent form references but is trying hard. TRIPLE THE CHANT got KO’d when trying to take a narrow gap in the straight last start. Forgive. CANTILEVER had a genuine excuse last start, overlook it completely. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – ANKAREEDA WIN RACE 6 SETAGAYA put the writing on the wall last start with a booming L600 to get within 1.5L of the eventual winner. Lived the effort and can sit considerably closer from a more favourable draw. METALIC MARLIN lapped them on the Fibre Sand but has clearly had a set back since being scratched from the Aquanita and now having a set of Pads applied. WHO SAZ YES was stopped in her tracks two back when she looked like she was about to burst through for victory and last start wasn’t too bad in the same race as Setagaya. QUICK COOKIE would be getting dizzy she’s been going around so often. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – SETAGAYA WIN RACE 7 FANTAXTIC looks better suited in this 46+. The fresh effort without a trial behind Repeater and Highland Flair (super winning form through both) was excellent and then second-up he went to a 3 year old 0MWLY where nothing went right from start to finish. Big drop in grade and worth giving another chance to. HESGOTWINGS goes from a 4kg claimer to William Pike on a day where he could have ridden ¾ winners by now. DELICATE RULER is a nice 3kg claimers horse and can bounce straight on the top and kick hard into the corner. MAIDMY WAY is loving life for her new trainer. Going really well. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – FANTAXTIC WIN RACE 8 LIKE NO OTHER can peel off a sustained run on his day and by this stage of the program it might just be out entirely down the outside fence. His last 46+ effort was excellent behind Where’s My Lunch and his most recent in a Westspeed was huge only 1L off On Patrol. This really is his grade. THE AGENCY finally broke through last start on the Fibre Sand and hopefully going into a 46+ can go on with it. BEST OF THE GODS was targeted in betting last start but never gave his supporters any joy at any stage. WESTCOAST EXPRESS ran back to back rippers three and four starts ago. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – LIKE NO OTHER WIN RACE 9 MAGICASH won well at her return to racing beating Diamond Dancer and Real Deluxe and then simply got gassed from the breeze last start at 1200m behind highly speedy filly Lucky I Am. Back in trip, Pike back aboard, expecting her to rebound. Would prefer if it was 1000m but also think she can land 1×1. MAGIC TO EXCEED had a long time off so he was an expected improver first-up to second-up and did exactly that. Should only get better again here. LOST CITY was a Saturday winning filly before the wheels fell off. GOLD MAKER a watch fresh. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – MAGICASH WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 7 1,2,7 2,3,4,5,8 1,8 Market Market
