Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on July 27, 2021July 27, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FORTY NINER has not been a friend of the punters in recent times but finds another wonderful opportunity here. Second to Short Talk, second to Choice Bid, second to She’s a Sweet Deel. Drawn perfectly and fingers crossed for Felicity Forbes-Ives that Thursday is the day. BARANTIAN trialled up behind Smokey Bay (when comfortably beating home Steak Night) and then behind Egg White. Bit of a query on the quality of the trial form with Egg White going under at Kalgoorlie on Sunday but he looks to have come back nicely. STEAK NIGHT probably has folks thinking she’s the half-sister to Cup Night when in fact she’s the half-sister to Chokslam! Trialled up nicely and gets the right run on debut. No reason why she can’t be going close on debut. ETHICAL SECRET caught the eye last start. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – FORTY NINER WIN RACE 2 STEEL’S THE DEEL looks to have raw, untapped ability and potential. Thrown in the deep end last start into a 3yo 0MWLY behind Ginger Baker, Chaluke, Sunsphere, Ghobella and Tumivet. We’ve seen the Ginger Baker reference going down narrowly in a 60+ Graduation on Saturday and we could be talking about the strength of the form further after Wednesday Race 4. Comes back to a maiden, winkers on, improving type. GOLDEN TIARA ran well on debut when finishing a dead-heat third behind Skater Boy and Bentley Beau. Should only improve. DARK PEAK comes from the same race and attacked the line very hard. SURVEILLANCE is a perennial maiden who has promised to win one for a long while. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – STEEL’S THE DEEL WIN RACE 3 CHEERFUL MOMENT is a 2 year old taking on the older horses and will have a lot of admirers. Was backed off the map last start in a genuine plunge when not getting clear until the bird had flown and attacking the line powerfully. Looks a raw and progressive talent who should take a stack of beating here. BENTLEY BEAU was equally well supported in betting at his return to racing and made solid late ground behind Skater Boy. Shades on and has shown gate speed in the past. MYSTICAL BABE kept coming in a race which turned into a bit of a slog last start. EXQUISITE STAR comes back in trip and gets the right run. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 12 – 6 Suggested Bet – CHEERFUL MOMENT WIN RACE 4 MY BABY BLUE JEAN trialled on Monday at Lark Hill so certainly no guarantee that she’ll make her debut on Thursday at Northam, but if she does then she looks a handy filly on debut. The family has produced some naturally talented types (Indigo Blue/Mr Genoa) and this looks another extension to the family. If she starts she’s the one. TALKABOUTYOU ran third on debut behind Gorgeous Gossip and Mahutas. Hasn’t been a strong or popular form reference but the recent trial was highly encouraging. AGENT KENSINGTON has struggled to break through for an elusive maiden win. Form held up brilliantly through Somethingready last start. RULELEE showed something at trials and Vaughn Sigley is in form. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – MY BABY BLUE JEAN WIN RACE 5 TYPE WON has another terrible gate to overcome but if Kristy Bennett can get her across without doing too much work and position up in the breeze then she’s got the form and ratings to win this. Finished within 3L off Acromantula, Vadette De Star and Iseered Iseered last campaign and wasn’t disgraced in another 3yo 62+ first-up. ANOSHAR finds a new home with Anne King and the debut 1000m win at Northam was strong over Prize Pursuit and What About Moi. PEPPER ASSAULT won well on debut and the form has held up already. MYSTERY MAN is the beneficiary of a 1.5kg claim for Laqdar Ramoly. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – TYPE WON WIN RACE 6 JAG THE JOKER is simply a different mare at Northam. Earlier in the season finished second in the track record breaking 1300 behind Super Ex, beating home Tiff Has Spoken and then was a winner this track, this distance, this grade under W.Pike at the WA Day public holiday meeting. Recent form (forgetting last start) is super and she drops back into her right grade. Drawn to get every chance. TIFF HAS SPOKEN is well suited to these C5 races and is more than capable of winning tougher than this. Alan Kennedy seems to get the best out of him. DANI BELLA can find the front and control the race. FAIRY FAST hasn’t been seen for over 750 days. Best to watch at her return. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – JAG THE JOKER WIN RACE 7 YANGTZE RAPIDS is the on top selection on Wednesday in a 3yo 0MWLY 1650 and a C3 1600 at Northam against the older horses on Thursday. Regardless of which way Tiarnna Robertson goes we’ll be following. Drawn a gate here and is a versatile type. Looks a massive galloper with a huge amount of ability. Does the wallet open Wednesday or Thursday? CHALUKE is thriving on the rain affected tracks and with the addition of W.Pike will have a lot of admirers. AL MAHALO comes back sharply in trip. Form has been highly consistent without winning. GOLD MERITS won well last start when taking all the short cuts. Numbers: (1) – 3 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – YANGTZE RAPIDS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,6,10 1,3,4,5,6,8,9 1,3,8 (1),2,3,5,6,7,8,9 Market Market
