Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 16, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 AMELIAS ETOILE has trialled exceptionally well for her debut. She looks professional and importantly for a debut at Northam she looks jump and run. Expecting Shaun McGruddy to take her straight to the front and she’ll take serious gunning down. Matched motors with Friday Knight for most her recent trial and that’s super form for a maiden. APPLE SCHNAPPS didn’t get the best of luck first-up when resuming off a 400m jump out. Should only improve here. LE CHOIX trialled like a filly who would be winning races early in her career. SISTORIO improved when the shades went on. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – AMELIAS ETOILE WIN RACE 2 THE FIBONACCI was as good a trial as Phanta at Belmont Park. Phanta beat Dom To Shoot on debut in a 3 year old handicap and THE FIBONACCI goes to a Northam maiden. From the draw expecting him to be ridden like the best horse in the race and prove hard to beat. LIFE FOR A LIFE will be jumping and running. That’s how Geoff Evans horses race and that’s how Chris Graham rides. TIME SCALE was bitterly disappointing first-up but it was on a soft track, she was green and in review the fence was the worst spot to be all day. HOOVER was a typical Ryan Hill trial. Went around in neutral. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE FIBONACCI WIN RACE 3 XAN BIO has really put the writing on the wall at her last two runs. Lightly raced 6 year old who seems to be thriving at a middle distance. From the draw Alan Kennedy can have her in the box seat and she was luckless at her most recent when charging late. MISS MARANTA was fresh between runs last time out and swept to the lead like the winner before peaking o the run and fading late. Worth following up. ADMIRED is one paced and will break his maiden in one of these staying races. CHOOSE FREEDOM looks like he will stay but might need a start at the trip. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – XAN BIO WIN RACE 4 SAUVEGARDE returns first-up no trial and has all the form on the board from her last campaign. Second to Naughty By Nature, fourth to Sophie’s Song, Special Choice and Playing Marika, second to Talladega (beating home Chatter Session), second to Baby Blues (beating home Leica Jaguar) and then ran into Fuhrer at her last outing when the bars went on and she was likely at the end of the prep. Bars are off and this is winnable. CLASSIC MAGUS is looking for a winning hattrick but this is a fair bit deeper than her most recent. HIGHWAY GLORY is running to his peak rating at the minute. Chance to lead and win. NOT MY FIGHT fresh is an improver. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – SAUVEGARDE WIN RACE 5 AIN’T I A WOMAN was scratched from York to be saved for this. Intriguing little filly but with the blinkers on, over 1000m at Northam, going to side with her to get the job done. Expecting Craig Staples to put the foot down and use her biggest asset which is her high speed. ORISTANO has not been a friend to the punters so far in his short career. Three runs in last preparation went around at an average SP of $1.70 when beating on all 3 occasions. His recent trial was enormous when splitting Celebrity Queen and State Attorney, running past Flower of War and Last of the Line in the process but he’ll concede them a big head start in this. DARK CITY trialled the house down in blinkers. No blinkers race day. DIVINE PAIR gets back on top of the ground and draws to box seat. Numbers: 11 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – AIN’T I A WOMAN WIN RACE 6 BRAVE CALL has been knocking on the door all preparation and now finally draws a gate. Backs up off 7 days and from the draw should settle in the first four or five. Always a bit risky getting involved in perennial maidens but he won’t get a better chance than this. TIME STARTS NOW has a minor gear change but Troy Turner also jumps on for the first time. RAG N BONEMAN was woeful last start. He has more talent than that. COLA DECOY ran well on debut and could even find the top in a race without speed. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – BRAVE CALL WIN RACE 7 SEA WAIF jumps off the page with the appointment of stable apprentice Hannah Fitzgerald. Drops 3.5kg down to 53.5 and has been eye catching all preparation. She broke her maiden when on speed and has recently been savaging the line from back in the field. Depending on how the track is playing Hannah Fitzgerald can either take her to the top or sit just off them. Either way she looks very hard to beat. LYLES CHOICE is a big class dropper and is rarely seen in C1 company. BRAVE CONTENDER can box seat and the appointment of Chris Parnham catches the eye. CORNFLOWER put in a good run last start. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – SEA WAIF WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3,4,7 1,3,7,8,11 1,2 6 Market Market
