Scott Embry’s Thursday Bunbury Preview

Race 1

CARTIER GLOW looked sharp in his recent 950m trial at Lark Hill and Tommy Wolfe’s horses go super on their home track (last 365 days = 30 runners for 8 winners at 26.7% Strike Rate and 64.8% POT). Should bounce out and put himself in a position and from there over the short course he’s in the firing line for a long way. BIG RED ZOOM is the full brother to highly talented stablemate Ourgirlcanrun and has only been seen publicly once at trials and it was impressive. Took an inside run strongly and really attacked the line. No surprise to see him step out a debut winner. BUCKSHOT BANDIT was allowed to walk them in the recent trial (1:03:41) but covered the ground nicely. MY MALENA is through the Cartier Glow trial and didn’t have a lot of room to move. No head gear on debut, but a watch at odds.

Race 2

PLAYA DEL SOL split Bondi Lifesaver and Spellborn in a 3 year old 0MWLY two back and finished the prep in third behind Trailer Truck and subsequent 3 year old 0MWLY victor Quokka Rocka. Those two runs are good enough to win this and the recent trial leading throughout at Lark Hill was really strong. Expect that Paul Harvey will give her a kick to come out underneath fellow speedsters Bubbles In Rio and Hot Chix Lane and look to land a spot close handy. VINO MISS is a big market watch. Went around in a 2 year old Saturday on debut as a $3.60 favourite and then resumed last campaign in a 3 year old Saturday. Clearly there’s an opinion of the mare and being first-up, no trial she’s a real X-Factor. BUDINO may want further than 1000 but worked home well late in the trial. HOT CHIX LANE is drawn off the track but the booking of Pike suggests she’s ready to go.

Race 3

PHAT CHAPS looks very hard to beat here and is likely to be pretty popular in betting. Last Wednesday at Belmont Park he went around in a C1 as a maiden under 60kg and finished off into second behind Rosie Can Run. 8 days later he drops back into a maiden, drops 2kg and should be going very close to breaking through. Shop early. PEMBETON comes through a winner producing maiden. Lets Take A Chance (races Wednesday at Pinjarra), Field Mistress second (has since won), Delicate Warrior third (has since won) and he ran fourth. TRICKSTER was brave on debut when no better than 3 deep the trip without cover. Went to a 3 year old Saturday second-up and thought considering he loomed into it three deep cover he could/should have finished off a big stronger late? Pike goes back on and this is a lot easier for him. OUI OUI LE VET ran a ripper fresh but a big query on that Good Show form.

Race 4

THE PERSIAN GOD is really well placed by Mitch Pateman. On debut he was eye catching behind 2x Saturday winning and Magic Million Placed filly They’reallsisters and hugely impressive subsequent winner Godspeed and then second-up he got a mile out of his ground and made steady in roads. Saturday 2/3yo racing into an All Age maiden and a set of shades going on for the first time. All big positives. May head to Saturday? And if he scratches then it’ll all be about TAG TIME who made his WA debut behind stablemate Flying Maradona and ran a solid second. He has since won again to frank the form and Team Williams reach immediately for a set of blinkers. Big danger. SUPER GOD did it tough on debut and now draws the fence. High price yearling with a future. SPONGE CAKE can roll to the top and stay out of trouble.

Race 5

NEWHAVEN PRINCE sat parked wide for the majority of the race last week at Belmont Park and kept coming behind plunge winner The Rocket. The time figure out of the race was outstanding: 5.5L faster than maiden average, and expect that will see him jumping very short in betting 8 days later stepping to 1400. He won’t be a maiden very long. Very winnable for him. VAMPI QUEEN has been well respected at each of her outings so far and returns as a 4 year old mare off the back of two 950m trial wins at Lark Hill. Drawn awkwardly but has versatility. RUTHLESS BLOOM has put in two nice efforts so far this campaign and the Flying Maradona / Tag Time form line is on show in Race 4. ATSUI HARU found the line alright on debut through some late traffic.

Race 6

WHO’S BENT has been trialling up quite well at Belmont for his return. Giaan O’Donnell rode him to victory in a C1 1000 at Ascot back in February when he beat now Saturday Westspeed Platinum winner Ripper Farooq and then he went to a 66+ when less than 2L off Pingers and Tycoon Harry. He tries hard and unlike a few of these he doesn’t need to lead to win. Nice race for him. BOSISTO looked really strong at trials. Always looked the kind of horse who could go through his grades. SOMETHING ROYAL had been knocking on the door all campaign and deserved that last start win. Pike takes over and she’ll again roll forward and be put into the contest. Drawn outside both Paint It Red and Sunlit Fresco so might need an ounce of luck to get across? MANTUA was once a m67 rater. He’s a 1000m horse. Back in distance is the right move.

Race 7

GOD’S CROSS is a nice type resuming. After breaking his maiden he ran second to Hubbles Dragon (now Magic Millions Placed), second to Swingman (66+/72+ Saturday type) and finished his campaign midfield in a pair of Saturday 3 year old Plates. Resumes in a C1 and comes through a recent 72+ trial (even though he’s only a m63 rater) when trying to match motors with Asif (placed on Saturday in a 66+ 1200). Lots of ticks for him. COSMIC GEM was $8 into $3.70 first-up off a strong trial win and unfortunately was afforded no luck being caught three deep the trip from barrier 4. He kept coming late impressively and looks to land a nice spot here over the speed. EIGHTYSEVEN LAD fell in a country maiden at Kal. Hard to trust that form? EXTRONIZE led and won at 100-1. Can you trust that form either?

Race 8

DARK AVALANCHE is getting closer and closer to another win and by coming up in grade they get to utilize the services of a senior rider for the first time this preparation, and that senior rider is William Pike. He has the speed to lead but listening to Brendon Fitz-Gerald it sounds like the intention is to ride him with a sit wherever possible so parking behind Looks seems to be the likely set up for him. From there he’s afforded every chance. FRIAR’S LEGACY went to Kal last start for a confidence boosting and overdue win. Can go on with it now and maps to get an identical run to last start. JELLY CAN RUN can bob up at a price from time to time and scratched from Saturday to save for this lower hanging fruit. POINT ROCKS improved sharply first-up to second-up.
