Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on May 20, 2020May 19, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DUSTYPARK looks to have found another winnable race. Was well thought of in betting last Wednesday and didn’t get the best of luck when held up before corning for home. This race doesn’t look any deeper and in fact is probably even weaker and he gets his chance. DARGIE has showed glimpses at trials and as we saw last week there is nothing wrong with getting back at Belmont. OCEAN CANDY comes back to 1200m after a few luckless wide draws at 1400. ASTRABA looks like Brad Parnham’s choice of ride and the latest trial was by far his best. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – DUSTYPARK WIN RACE 2 TOVARICH has had 15 opportunities to break his maiden but this looks one of the better ones he will get. There is not a lot of speed or depth to this 1000m scamper and with senior rider Shaun O’Donnell going on he looks well placed to finally break through. SHAPE SHIFTER is likely better suited over further but the run last week at this distance was solid. CARMURLEA first-up could well give them something to chase with Beaux Edwards likely to find the front and run. PROTECTED ACTION showed promise as a 2 year old but had a fairly plain preparation when last in work. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – TOVARICH WIN RACE 3 THE WITCH DOCTOR has not been seen for over 400 days which is of huge concern, not knowing exactly what has gone wrong behind the scenes, but her recent trial effort was strong behind talented galloper Indian Pacific and this is an extremely thin field. Even three deep the trip she can win. SWANKY LASS may get under the guard with Albany form but with Pateman on must be respected. MISS MERIT won from off the speed last start but may be allowed to stride here by Derrick. SECRET ASSAULT is well placed in this grade and after the claim is a live hope. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE WITCH DOCTOR WIN RACE 4 SUN POWER has been well below par this preparation to date but this is far and away his most suitable assignment. Resumed 4.5L off talented trio Leica Jaguar, Amelia’s Contraire and Old Mick. Last time out was spinning the wheels on a Soft7. Back on top of the ground and likely to lead he is worth another go. PRAING WITH GOD is a staying filly resuming and can sprint well fresh from the soft draw. METALLIC QUEEN has found a nice race and her recent runs have all been full of merit. JIMMY RAPID should settle three back the fence and with cheap runs late can go well. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet – SUN POWER WIN RACE 5 I’M ICEY was the target of big money last start ($5 into $3.2) when failing to fire a shot. Was crossed and then attacked when popping off heels but didn’t give much in the run to the line. Previous effort was three deep the trip outside the leader when fighting on bravely behind Platinum Bullet, Denim Pack and Eristic who would all be in the red in this field. Forgiving him and going again. VALIDATION has big weight relief with the 3kg apprentice going on and draws a gate. LITTLE FLIRT was well found last start and rightfully so. Ran super. FOXY ROYALE find a very suitable assignment off the quick back-up. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – I’M ICEY WIN RACE 6 DANI BELLA ran a far improved race last start after being honest at her two runs before. The George Dupre stable is producing a lot of winners at the moment and with any luck from the wide draw she should be winding up into calculations at the right time. POINT TAKEN should land a lovely spot from the draw and go back only three starts she was a super winner against the pattern on Good Friday. PERCEIVE is fresh here and most of her first-up runs have been good enough to win a race of this nature. WHIM CREEK should get every possible chance from the draw. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – DANI BELLA WIN RACE 7 BOMBAY STYLE can mix his form to a certain extent but he won well in arguably a tougher and deeper race last start. Only goes up 0.5kg and Chris Parnham should get him across from the sticky draw. SAN CRISPINO is as honest and consistent as they come. She’ll give 110% and be in the finish. OUR GIRL MARLI draws soft again and is racing well enough to be competitive here. ROMAN FLIRT comes out of a weak maiden but Pike sticks. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 11 – 7 Suggested Bet – BOMBAY STYLE WIN RACE 8 INTERSTATE draws to box seat behind a genuine tempo and that was the recipe for success last start. Didn’t seem to overly appreciate leading at Bunbury so no doubt Parnham will be keen to sit from the inside. If he gets it soft leader’s back again he’ll be hard to hold out late. MR UNDERCOVER has been building and this looks a very nice race for him. Made solid ground late last start on a Soft7 and should appreciate the extra furlong. AMILLIONITE ran well first-up and second-up in similar events to this. IS A BOMBSHELL should be suited to a return to Belmont. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – INTERSTATE WIN RACE 9 UNENDING gets in with a very winnable 59kg after the claim for Laqdar Ramoly and while it is near on impossible to get involved in these staying races with any degree of confidence she should get the right run and has been faultless of late in much deeper and stronger races than this. CELTIC DIVA looks the biggest danger and while she will likely settle next to last has a sustained turn of acceleration. FLYING TARGET is a query at the trip but gets it soft under Pike. ABELDANE is never impossible. Quaddie must. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – UNENDING WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3,7 2,3,5,7,10,11 2,5,6,7 3,4,5,8,9,10,11 Market Market
