Scott Embry’s Sunday Narrogin Preview Posted on October 29, 2021October 31, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THE HAWKEYE has shown a liking for these tight cornered types of country track. For whatever reason some stables really excel on these courses (York/Narrogin) and Gary Crispin is certainly one of them. Last 2 years 44% strike rate at York, 20% at Narrogin. At 1720m with two runs under the belt The Hawkeye looks hard to beat here. PHENOMENAL ANOMALY makes his debut and he looks like the staying trips will be exactly what he needs. One paced at trials but keeps coming. JAMAICA JEUNEY is one of a few Darren McAuliffe runners on the program with legitimate winning claims. I’M A DREAMER is no star but gets in with no weight. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – THE HAWKEYE WIN RACE 2 HILTON trialled up particularly well recently over the 930m at Lark Hill. Those trials are hard to assess but he looked sharp and he looked to have speed which is a huge bonus at Narrogin. Expecting that Chloe Azzopardi will be looking to cross the two on her inside and then be on a jump and run mission on debut. If he leads into the corner he will look the winner on straightening. FREEDOMOFTHEPRESS came back in distance fresh and that looks his go. Don’t think he stays. GIDGET THE MIDGET was solid at her return and should only improve fitness wise coming off a 400m jump out. BENEATH THE COVERS showed glimpse at trials. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – HILTON WIN RACE 3 MILLIVOY gave Boy Hill nightmares on debut when doing everything wrong under pressure and laying in across the heels of the tiring leader. Still managed to finish second in a hot form reference. Butterfly House went around $1.75 on Thursday and finished a narrow second to Famous Jurney and the third horse My Marlaina won a maiden. Provided the experience helps straighten him up he drops 1kg into a far thinner race and looks hard to beat. PRIMATIVE comes off the typical Lou Luciani debutante preparation with 400m jump outs only. Looks to have ability and the entire family have been winners. PRIVATE SCENE will find this easier than the company she took on in her initial preparation. HOIST THE COLOURS didn’t seem to appreciate the Collie surface. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – MILLIVOY WIN RACE 4 RED INFERNO looks like a mare who will give Graeme Ayres a bit of fun over the next few months. The maiden win down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra was dominant and then she contested back to back Saturday 3 year old races. 3L off Island Charm, Iseered Iseered and Gemma’s Son suggests she has ability and this is a weak race. Gets her opportunity provided she can stay out of trouble. HELL RAIDER trialled up nicely and with the claim for now South West apprentice Tyla Becker looks the logical danger. RAIN GOD has become costly. The ratings system is making it hard for the Durrant yard. 62.5kg in a C1. AMBERGATE ROSE is a little tryer. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – RED INFERNO WIN RACE 5 SMOKING BARREL is coming from the Toodyay Cup and the Moora Cup. Finished second on both occasions to Admiral Promo and now back into this grade he should be ready to win. Most recent victory in his career was in a 172- at Narrogin in 52+ company under Lucy Warwick. Follows the same path here for hopefully the same result. TALENTED ESCAPE was a strong winner last start in a 46+. This is slightly tougher but he has always shown sufficient ability to be winning a few races and his racing pattern is suited to the York/Narrogin style of racing. Expecting him to sit over the top of the speed and be right there in the finish again. AL DI LA is hard to catch but his best is better than most of these. Just haven’t seen it consistently. WILD GALAH just keeps whacking away. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – SMOKING BARREL WIN RACE 6 JOHNNY ANGEL has 62kg to contend with but should prove a class above rivals. When last in work Michael Grantham slowly but surely got his head around him and he went on to win a C2 at Kalgoorlie (with 60) and then finished half a length third in a 60+ Graduation to Wakan Tanka and Jag The Joker, beating home metro types like Real Grace, Dunbar, Agent Jay and London Miss as well as provincial types Bedouin Belle and Devine Beast. Better form than these have against their name. MISS QUOTED is a career C1, however, she runs for Mitchell Pateman and she is drawn to get the suck run she needs. CHOIX DE LACE will be looking for the fence and while finishing sixth last start posted a career PB rating doing so. AYASHA was a replay watchers follow first-up Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – JOHNNY ANGEL WIN RACE 7 SOME SORT is a polarising galloper. Clearly there’s a few underlying issues with him because his best and his worst are 10L apart over the last 12 months. He resumed in a 70+ at Geraldton and carried 61kg. Sat in the breeze in a race where they smashed the clock and went 5L faster than average. Entitled to fade and now drops 2kg and 100m into a more suitable race. Holly Watson rides these on speed horses brilliantly and we’ll follow up. SIR SNUGALOT pinched a Saturday race at Belmont over the winter. No doubt Tyla Becker will be kicking through along the fence with him on the fresh side. NATIVE CHIMES is drawn to do it tough. Going well but not an easy mare to handle. PASAJERO was a sensational trial. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – SOME SORT WIN RACE 8 PINK N GRAY comes from Westspeed Platinum, 60+ Graduation and C5 racing where he is always highly consistent. More often than not returns a rating within 1-2L of his PB and that kind of rating is more than sufficient to be winning this. Drawn inside, rides the speed and should have a tactical advantage over most rivals. Never far from the winner and a proven weight carrier over the years. IGARASHI looks well placed by Darren McAuliffe. Most recently finished third behind Ginger Flyer and Brother Paddy. The only query is dropping from 1600 back to 1100m. Otherwise the form stacks up. LIL RED BIKINI is a handy mare on her day. LIFE FOR A LIFE needs an ounce of luck to get across. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – PINK N GRAY WIN RACE 9 MEDELLIN made his WA debut last campaign in a C1 when finishing second to Testing Love and then dominated an 1100m C1 beating Prized Nemesis. That galloper went on to win the Westspeed Platinum Final at Ascot and rise in the ratings from a m62 to m72 following the Medellin defeat. First-up, no trial is an unknown but Steven (Spider surely?) Burton looks like he can train. FIRE ANT first-up last preparation was a ripping run and should have finished a lot close than she did. Don’t discount the mare. CHAMPAGNE GAL has arguably the best and strongest form lines to her name. Capable fresh. RUBYJEAN is probably the most naturally talented horse in the field. Bars on first-up. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 9 – 6 Suggested Bet – MEDELLIN WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,4 1,2,3,4,9 1,6,10 1,2,6,9,10 Market Market
