Scott Embry’s Sunday Mount Barker Preview Posted on October 30, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CONVALESCE simply looks the winner on exposed form. Split First Law and She’s God To You in a quality 2 year old midweek race and then ran third behind Kallaroo and Holy Enchantment. Shaun McGruddy goes down to Mt Barker for a rare trip and he looks a class above them. This will be a strong form reference with a few handy types around. ROCK HARD OMARU caught the eye at both outings and at the trials. IMAGE KEEPER has only been seen once at trials but it was impressive. STANDOUT ROSE in a similar vein a winner of her last two Lark Hill trials in style. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – CONVALESCE WIN RACE 2 CITY INVASION was narrowly beaten on debut by Black Lightning with Doowahdiddy back in third. Not the strongest form line in the world but in this maiden Laqdar Ramoly should nearly find the front and at the minute his 2kg country claim is luxurious. TOSCANA beat home Convalesce and Rock Hard Omaru in a recent trial at Albany and that should in theory look strong form after the opening race. TROODLES is yet to show up in WA. Hopefully Sam Faithful can get her to go. COUNT THE SESSIONS has looked to have ability at trials. Numbers: 1 – 10 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – CITY INVASION WIN RACE 3 ZETORIO may well settle back last in the small field of 7 but this is an extremely evenly graded race. He is one from one at Mt Barker which is a huge positive because it can be a bit of a horses for courses type of track and he is by far the most progressive horse. Average age of opposition over 9 years of age and hopefully the younger Zetorio can show them up. TRANQUILLA SUNRISE, POTENT SECRET and ABU DHABI are all very talented front runners who will be carving out electric early sections. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – ZETORIO WIN RACE 4 SOLARIZE wasn’t disgraced first-up when running sixth at Northam. Was allowed to stride by Mitch Pateman and only faded late and the form now reads super (Magical Dream a Belgravia Stakes winner and Smart Princess a midweek Ascot winner). MODERN TIMES is best allowed to roll. Has 61.5kg but it’s only 1000m and he can carry the weight. LONDON MISS returns off a strong trial performance and some of her three year old form is clearly good enough. TRAMONTANE finds a new home and always promised a lot. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – SOLARIZE WIN RACE 5 SEA WAR has had a trial since his last run where he ran fourth behind Notorious One, Misty Lad and Bobcat Johnnie. That is solid midweek metro form and he looks well placed back in grade and back into the country area. Burst onto the scene as a horse to follow last year in Albany and hopefully can recapture his best. RUM RAKER was a really good run first-up for a horse who ran ninth. Well placed back into a C2 but will need a peach from the draw. CARESS YOUR SOUL always a winning chance in this grade and could well find the top. COUNTER DRIVE has hit some form. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 3 Suggested Bet – SEA WAR WIN RACE 6 MR MT WALKER was a soft winner in this grade at Albany back on 15 May. Then went back to the metro area and ran second in a C3 behind Super Teroitoa and then fourth behind Avalon Bay and Bold Success. Recent trial was sound and from the draw it’s another plumb ride for Shaun McGruddy. EVOLUTIONIST was a big trial behind Tommy Blue and that could prove to be Saturday Ascot form with that mare resuming on Saturday. Boy Hill goes to Barker for one ride and that’s a lot of Taylor Swift hours in the car if he doesn’t go close. READ THE RIOT ACT is more than capable and well placed this grade. BERGIO can sprint well fresh. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – MR MT WALKER WIN RACE 7 BLANKENBERGE had absolutely no luck first-up at Geraldton. Sat three deep the trip over the speed and only faded late to be beaten less than 2.5L. All things considered it was a big run and from the draw Banjo Paterson should be able to give her a far better run in transit. Broke her maiden here last year before going through the grades in Geraldton and should prove hard to beat. ATHLONE CASTLE is a talented type on his day and Kyra Yuill has been the in form country rider for 12 months. DANEHILL STORM had strong form before the last couple of runs at the end of his campaign. MAGIC OPUS always runs well fresh. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – BLANKENBERGE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4 1,2,8 1,4,6 3,4,5,6,7,8 Market Market
