Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on August 7, 2026August 7, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 OMERTA GRACE finally showed a level of improvement last start after a lacklustre start to his preparation. He was still slowly away which has become a bit of an issue in recent times but at least he finished off strongly late and through the line. He gets a 1.5kg weight swing on key rival Ideally and Austin Galati is riding winners for fun at the minute. Big chance to turn the tables. IDEALLY rises 2.5kg start to start and may have to drag back a pair to find cover from the outside draw in the small field. She’s still improving with racing and even with the negative weight swing against Omerta Grace she’ll still likely jump favourite. THE CANDY KID can again roll the top and give cheek. JAYASHREE is not the same mare we saw 2 months ago. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – OMERTA GRACE WIN Race 2 LORD MOMO is a lump of a horse who looks like he needs all of 1600 to wind up. He stays in Kalgoorlie with new trainer Peter Fernie and interestingly Lucy Fiore is on stablemate Peanut Butter (which is likely a strong lead in itself) but with a set of shades on and a barrier to work with going to side up with Lord Momo. Both were ‘wrong’ part of the track last start on a very much fence in run program. PEANUT BUTTER has more sharpness, there’s no doubt, it’s just whether he can take the step straight from 1100 to 1600, especially when he’s drawn a bit awkwardly. GOLD LILLY was 30-1 in the Acoustic Bubbles race but was hitting the line better than anything. LEADER OF THE PACK ran alright two back behind Unwanted News at 150-1. Runs either side though – very moderate. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – LORD MOMO WIN Race 3 VIVALDA joins the stables of Peter Fernie and has run four placings from 6 starts in the metro and provincial area. She’ll command plenty of respect. Split Eternal Wine and True Fiction on debut, third to Shilling Lane and King Brew last prep. She’s got the best form to her name and just needs to overcome a tricky draw. SIPPA SPRITZ is well placed by the Pearce Brothers. 53.5kg as a 3yo filly taking on the older horses and maps a treat. COBAR SKY was first-up, no trial and got out past 100-1, but probably should have beaten odds on favourite Eightyseven Lad. It was the best losing ride you’ll see from ZJP who was ducking and weaving a passage through heavy traffic before launching late. OUR ENCHANTRESS is through the same race as Cobar Sky and they finished alongside each other. Numbers: 4 – 10 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – VIVALDA WIN Race 4 I NEVER DREAMED broke a relatively long run of outs but as trainer Gary Bowen said post race ‘it’s the first time she’s had any luck’. Both of her WA wins are this track/distance and with the Sharni Webster claim she’ll only carry 51.5kg. The opposition is no stronger than what she won last start and it gives her a great opportunity to go back to back. FIVE DOWN is just an enigma. He was desperately held up last start (entire length of straight) but if you can catch him then you should be buying lotto tickets. MAGIC WILL REIGN is an old boy (10yo) but he’s returned in decent order. Shades on, drawn well and no surprise to see him go close in this moderate line-up. HIGH PRECISION is deep (deep) into a campaign and the 1600m seems to be right on her limit but she’ll get it soft three back the fence. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – I NEVER DREAMED WIN Race 5 MUST BE NICE is really well placed here by Felicity Forbes-Ives. Only five starts ago he won a C1 at Ascot and since then he has been competitive in both C3 and 0MWLY company. Two back he finished third in a 0MWLY behind Our Mate Archie (races in a 66+ on Saturday at Belmont) and last time out he contested a 60+ Graduation that contained Western Miss and Shimonoseki. Back to a C2, metro to country and Tash Faithfull sticks. He’s a big horse who should have no troubles carrying weight or running the trip. Nice race for him. GOLD ENIGMA put the writing on the wall last start and will only get better with more and more ground. Should I Never Dreamed go well in the previous the form will only look stronger. BATISTA has missed a run after getting loose last meeting. METALLIC MARLIN was an improver last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – MUST BE NICE WIN Race 6 TREBLE MAKER had it all to do first-up when pulling out a big L600 to gun down her rivals at 1200m. There’s no doubting she’s got ability, she’s now 5/6 at the KBRC and has won a 60+ Graduation over the Traditional Annual Race Round and finished 1.5L off Jaz Session in an Epona Classic. Should only improve second-up and looks hard to beat in the Kambalda Cup. RAINLINE is well placed here. She’s dropping down from 59.5kg to 54.5kg, goes from a claiming apprentice to a senior and has the versatility to park on Monty Zoomer. Good race for her. MONTY ZOOMER has been ridiculously good this campaign and gone to a whole new level on the Goldfields. Word was he was going for a well deserved spell – 28 days is all he got! PLAYING GAMES sharpened up in shades last start. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – TREBLE MAKER WIN Race 7 GIBRALTAR GOLD should have this race nearly set up for her. The speed horses have plenty of weight and are a big chance of going toe to toe from a fair way out and she’s the kind of mare who needs the speed on in her races. Tested the waters in Perth after a successful start to her Kalgoorlie season and now returns to her correct grade/jurisdiction. Nice map for her. SCIENCE DEGREE was on the fresh side last start and under the 59.5kg (after the Jason Li claim) was brave in defeat when only run down in the shadows by Queen Of Hawks. Like that Brett Drury is keeping him in 58+ grade and claiming off him. SURE THING now follows the same theory. Dropping out of 70+ grade, getting back into a 58+ and using the 3kg claim of Sharni Webster. Between that pair they should control the speed of this race. DANCEWITHME gets big weight relief. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – GIBRALTAR GOLD WIN Race 8 ALOTTAFIGHTING – overdue. Big behind Call Me Frosty first-up, enormous off the track throughout second-up behind Lendanear, desperately unlucky third-up behind Deeply Rooted and then had to be put into the race from a mile out fourth-up and was still coming on the line. He’s finally drawn a gate, he’s been flying all campaign and think 1400m is his sweet spot. Cross fingers, cross toes, today is the day. JUST SUBLIME has had a 5 week freshen after a below par performance behind Lendanear. Prior to that she had been knocking on the door bouncing between C2 and 58+ company and going through her replays she’s a mare that hasn’t had much luck this prep. LUMINOUS LADY never got a crack at them last start. BUON AMICI can always give cheek. Numbers: 6 – 5 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – ALOTTAFIGHTING EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2 5,6 1,2,7,8,10 5,6,7,10,11 Market Market
