Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview

RACE 1

DIXIE PRINCESS is a 14 start maiden but her three runs at Geraldton this preparation have all been faultless. She can work forward from her wide barrier, settle up on the speed and is showing a bit of grit late. GRINT was an alarming drifter at his WA debut and after finding the front cheaply had very little late once tested. FLASH INVADER put in the best run of his life at Narrogin last start. KAI SHOAL has no race or trial form but the booking of CJP is always going to take the attention.

RACE 2

IDEALLY got a mile out of her ground on debut at Bunbury when hitting the line full of running into third behind Universal Hotness and Authorative ($5 into $2.70 and luckless on Thursday at Bunbury). Right form but barrier 16 means she’s likely to get a long way back again. Would love to see an eachway price to entertain an investment. SPECIAL PLAN ran a few really good races last season and first-up has both blinkers and Lucy Fiore. BIG BONED BAZ can again work forwards and park up on the speed. CHASIN’ THE KISS got the line well on debut.

RACE 3

HILLSIDE HORACE was one way traffic in betting on Melbourne Cup Day and absolutely bolted in. Looks to have come back bigger and better this campaign and think he can work his way through the lower grades in the region this time in. VANCOUVER STORM steps out for Michael Grantham for the first time and can sprint well fresh over the 1400. MONTY ZOOMER rolls out in front. The booking of Troy Turner catches the attention too. MIFF MUFFERED MOOF has put together two big runs into minor places. Getting very close now.

RACE 4

FORBIDDEN APPLE won like a mare on the rise on Cup Day. She broke her maiden three starts back in style, did things wrong two starts back when plunged unsuccessfully in betting and then won with the handbrake on last start. Step to 1900m doesn’t look like it will worry her and could just keep winning. QUEEN NARDI has the blinkers coming off and Geraldton has been a happy hunting ground for her. BECALOTTI is huge query at the trip? MYTHICAL DREAM a costly maiden so far.

RACE 5

ALMAYA has been there abouts at the provincials recently and maps to get a great run. Heads to Geraldton, blinkers go on, Luke Campbell riding full of confidence and strikes an evenly graded C1 without a standout. GONDRINKIN was solid behind Well Played in a 58+ and then wasn’t disgraced on Melbourne Cup Day at Ascot behind Cashel Palace / Rally The Troops. Don’t discount. A LOT OF CLASS has come back well and broke his maiden like a horse who would be winning a C1 / C2 at his next few outings. KING MAHUTA looks a real one paced type who CJP will have to put into the race under the 61kg.

RACE 6

SAFE HUSTLE has returned in career best form. Senior rider goes back on, draws low and can either kick through to lead or can box seat. Either way he’s in form and gets the run he needs to win this Heat of the Regional Championship Series. WELL PLAYED was set a task last start sitting wide under her 60kg impost and faded out from the point of the home corner. 12 days later she’s dropping back to 1200m which is the query. SURE NO SOMETHING put the writing on the wall two back and got the job done last start (just). HAMMARMILL drops back into 59+ company for the first time this season.

RACE 7

SUPERSESSION is looking to retain his Batavia Sprint crown. Recent form is around Colonel Reeves types like Man Crush, Rope Them In, Almighty Class and other top quality metro sprinters like Toropa, Generosity, Amber Glide. Racing a length or two below his best but we’ll get eachway. WHAT A PRINCE ran a placing behind Supersession in the 2023 Batavia Sprint before winning the Geraldton Cup. He will really appreciate dropping down to 56.5kg and last start showed that he’s not far off his best. COUNT THE SESSIONS is absolutely flying. BIG SCREEN can go out on a jump and run mission.

RACE 8 

FAMOUS DREAM toyed with them late at Bunbury on Cup Day and Michael Grantham isn’t afraid to bring his progressive youngsters to Geraldton and has been doing so with great success this season. She looks like she’ll only get better with racing and this is a wonderful stepping stone for her. ON THE MARK did plenty wrong fresh and was still there at the finish. He’s a nice horse, just needs to learn what the game is about. THE RUSH won a C2 1213 three starts ago under 60kg and erupted down the centre. Hasn’t had much luck in her next two in 58+ company. HOT NOVA is going well for the new yard.
