Scott Embry’s Sunday Carnarvon Preview Posted on August 28, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 EMPIRE KHAN is over a month between runs and was scratched at the meeting on the 14th August. His two runs in Carnarvon have been excellent. Second behind Carmurlea (now a C1 winner) and beating home Dash for Knickers who has since broken through. From the draw he should stay out of trouble and go close to breaking through. SHIVERS OF JOY was jumping out of the ground at his first start on the dirt when specked at a price in the market. PRINCESS LILYTESS has speed and if she can get across from the draw is a live hope. MIAMI MOON far better suited back in trip. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – EMPIRE KHAN WIN RACE 2 SHREWD GAMBLE ran all the quickest sections two starts ago when finishing sixth beaten 5.5L behind Rhino’s Lad and then showed it was no fluke last start when chasing really hard behind Retribution. That race was 3.5L faster than C3 average and he should be even better suited at a mile. He gets his chance here and Tash Faithful is flying. FAIR GLORY can be a handful for barrier staff but if they can get him into the machine he’ll be in the finish. Great dirt debut behind Madrid Centro. REUCOOP was one of the bigger wins of the season last start to the eye but will always concede them a start and the inside draw is a concern. BULL BAILEY going well. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHREWD GAMBLE WIN RACE 3 RETRIBUTION has flown the flag for Kelvin Moore since coming to Carnarvon this season. Only two runs to date and first-up was very impressive at an unsuitable 1000 and then last start was dominant at 1400. The overall race time 3.5L faster than average and he was the one setting those sections. Madi Derrick should take him to the top and he’ll take real running down. RHINO’S LAD is going super and Snaggers Sardelic is giving him every chance. This draw makes it more interesting. SKY ATLAS flopped last start but willing to forgive with Hagley going on. GOLDEN ACRES suited up in trip. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – RETRIBUTION WIN RACE 4 KING OF PLANETS finds his most suitable race of the preparation. Steps to 1400m for the first time but has been consistently knocking on the door with placings. Madi Derrick takes over and he drops 2.5kg. Draws an ideal gate and in a race without any natural leader he can take it up early and then track Bonroca if Faithful puts the foot down. BONROCA ran them into the ground at a mile in a weak maiden. ANGEL JUPITER can put in a poor one from time to time but this looks a nice race for her. ENACTMENT is going incredibly well but 1400 is right on her limit. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 5 – 10 Suggested Bet – KING OF PLANETS WIN RACE 5 PREMIO MOMENTO was heavily commissioned last start and the money was spot on. He returned a personal best figure when gunning down Jelani Express and with only a 1kg swing in the weights can make it interesting again. JELANI EXPRESS jumped and ran last start at 1200m. If Jess Gray rides him in the same way at 1000m he’ll take running down. THE CHORISTER will need to sustain a run but is capable. ABU DHABI has always looked a great dirt horse but 1000 may be a bit sharp. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – PREMIO MOMENTO WIN RACE 6 BIG BLOWS was a strong winner three starts ago and then when stepping to 1700 was demolished by Danefin. He was left 12L behind him and the Carnarvon Cup market was thrown on its head. Last start is more like the Big Blows that we know. Michelle Hagley elects to ride for herself and has to jump off the undefeated (in Carnarvon) Madrid Centro. Great battle looming but siding with Big Blows. MADRID CENTRO had to do it the tough way last start. He was slowly away and then never on the track at any stage. He is very good. GLORYLAND is getting closer. BOYS GETAROUND HIM loves the country cups circuit. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – BIG BLOWS WIN RACE 7 MYTHICAL TRUST may have turned 10 years old on August 1st but he is racing extremely well and extremely consistently. His last two efforts have been enormous when finishing runner up to Viotti (beating home Behrooz in the process) and Kramden (beating home Danefin). This looks a really good assignment for him and Hannah Fitzgerald’s claim comes in handy. SWEET TALKIN ran out of her skin behind Premio Momento and Jelani Express last start. If she reproduces that run she’s hard to beat. FLASH OF THUNDER brings alternative form references but has hit form at the right time. HAIL DA HINCHI won well first-up.
