Scott Embry’s Sunday Carnarvon Preview Posted on September 1, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CALICO KID ran second in a C1 over 1400 in May and then didn’t race in June or July. Two maiden efforts back have seen him run second behind Sorais and second when narrowly beaten behind surprise winner King Kauri who just wouldn’t lay day over the last 50m. Another great chance to break through. CAPE PRIDE has promised to win a maiden all preparation since joining Malcolm McKenzie. Has finished in the money at Marble Bar, Port Hedland and Junction. Now he has a crack at Carnarvon. BELLA EVE finished third in the King Kauri/Calico Kid race. HERO OF THE DAWN has shown enough from time to time. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – CALICO KID WIN RACE 2 DASHING IMAGE finished second behind Trisuem in the Pearl Classic at Broome last start. Every year we see these Broome horses head down to finish their preparations and invariably they go well on their way home. NORTHEN RULER is drawn out and that culd be a blessing for him. There was nothing between him and The Witch Doctor last time they met. THE WITCH DOCTOR was crunched in betting last start and just missed. Is now 0 from 18 at Carnarvon but getting very close. KLONDIKE KENNY carried 61kg last start when holding off the late charge of The Witch Doctor. Rises to 62.5kg here and will need to be at his very best. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – DASHING IMAGE WIN RACE 3 SAINTLY CITY was simply too quick for them last Saturday at Junction. He looked like he may have been in trouble at the top of the straight when Cape Pride loomed large but he was able to safely hold him off. Back to the flying 1000 looks to suit. OLD TIMES is very quick and can give a lot of cheek out in front drawn underneath of Saintly City. LO LO LONHRO has been a great acquisition for Darryn Pateman. Won 2 races on the dirt and rarely run a bad race. EMPIRE KHAN drops back into a 50+ after finishing third behind Klondike Kenny and The Witch Doctor last start. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SAINTLY CITY WIN RACE 4 HERITAGE SASH has had 6 starts at the Carnarvon 1000 for 3 wins and 2 minors. He has been given a 6 week freshen up by Sean Rains who is a gun at getting them to win first-up and off a freshen. Proven weight carrier and only two starts ago he ran over the top of them over the short course after being tailed off early. Does things wrong but his best is good enough to win this. WOODBUG was simply too quick for them last start. He won by almost 4L running away from them. Repeat of that effort he’ll take a stack of beating. SPEEDING COMET doesn’t know how to run a bad race. KRAMDEN is racing a little below his best but has no weight. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – HERITAGE SASH WIN RACE 5 MYSTICAL MAN can be frustrating at times but he has a huge amount of raw ability. He’ll be in the second half of the field and will need to time his run but with a 3.5kg weight pull on one of his main dangers he looks like he’ll be hard to hold out in the Peter Evans Memorial on his way to the Carnarvon Cup. OMBUDSMAN ran a solid fourth in the Broome Cup after getting a long way back and rattling to the line. He has 60.5kg and is drawn the outside gate so Jess Valenti (who knows him very well) will need to put him into the race sooner rather than later. Winnable by his standards. REGAL CITY is nearly back to his best. GALIBA brings X-Factor with the Roebourne/Port Hedland form. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MYSTICAL MAN WIN RACE 6 STUMBLE had a good season in Broome without winning a race. He finished second to Danehill Storm at the opening meeting, second to Uni Me, third to Sunsphere, third to Koranis in the Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup (beating home True Attraction) and then didn’t fire in the Broome Cup. This is a big drop in grade and he is better suited at the mile. SECRET LAIR is looking to win a third straight race. Going really well and being afforded every chance by Rosie Mahony. MULTINOVA MAN was plunged in betting last start but couldn’t hold off the stablemate. CALLING CARD won a 56+ mile at Port Hedland in June. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – STUMBLE WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 3,5 1,2,3 1,4,7 1,2,3,4 Market Market
