Scott Embry’s Saturday Port Hedland Preview Posted on June 15, 2023June 15, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KING HALLOWELL had his first start for Carey Martin and his first start on the dirt when finishing second to Rosa Ballerina at Port Hedland 13 days ago. With that natural fitness improvement and the dirt experience as well as Austin Galati sticking is enough to suggest he’ll be hard to beat. COMPAK joins the Malcolm Mackenzie yard and is drawn one gate inside of King Hallowell. They can come across together and could well be the quinella. CAPE PRIDE was much better last start. DEVILS QUEEN covered ground at her Tom Pike debut. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – KING HALLOWELL WIN RACE 2 LAND OF VALENS brings a lot of intrigue at his first start on the dirt. He landed in WA 52 days between runs coming out of a Warwick Farm BM72 when he lead them a merry dance at Ascot to win by over 1.3L ahead of subsequent winners Harmika and Debit Credit. He’s quick and will lead them here. Just needs to see out 1200m. GALIBA is tough and loves the dirt. No matter how the race is run she’ll keep coming. AL MAGICO likely finds the 1200 on the sharp side. SIXPENCE SPENT is closing in on another win. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – LAND OF VALENS WIN RACE 3 ELITE TIME is bursting to win a race. Third at Carnarvon behind Northern Ruler and Whos Your Mama before running second to stablemate Finest Clobber in back to back Malcolm Mackenzie quinellas. Has now gone from a 56+ to a C3 to a C1 and gets her chance. ROSA BALLERINA was simply too quick for them in the maiden on opening day. She’ll look to kick through and run again. WHOS YOUR MAMA has the services of Tash Faithful and coming back 100m looks suitable for her. COMMANDS RESPECT is honest. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – ELITE TIME WIN RACE 4 KELLYS LASSIE, AMELIAS BELIEF and OUR KIWI PRINCESS are all last start winners who clash here in a good quality 56+. KELLY’S LASSIE won at Port Hedland three starts ago, won at Roebourne last week (with 60kg) and now backs up into a 56+ 1200 back at Port Hedland. Tash Faithfull takes the ride and she’s drawn to get every chance. AMELIA’S BELIEF ran them into the ground last start. He’s leaving the gates brilliantly and running time. OUR KIWI PRINCESS finds this harder but is loving dirt life. GRATED COCONUT next best. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – KELLYS LASSIE WIN RACE 5 FINEST CLOBBER has improved a few lengths since landing on the dirt. Chased hard over 1000 at Carnarvon, won a 56+ 1200 at Port Hedland 7 days later and then backed it up with a gritty win when wide throughout in a C3 1400. Same grade, same track, same distance and drops 1.5kg after the ZJP claim. Hard to fault and hard to beat. ALMAHER MAN has had a few starts in the metro area in Perth to prepare him for his likely assault on the Cups Series. If he can get across and stay out of the kickback he’s a big chance. HEZAZEB is always there abouts. SECRET LAIR is consistently there abouts. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – FINEST CLOBBER WIN RACE 6 ELAFELLA is another who lands up in Port Hedland with Nadia Bishop for his first dirt run of the season. Last year he had three runs on dirt: won a 1400m 56+ at Roebourne off a 6-week gap, ran third to Dance Cockey and Powerful in the Broome Sprint and then carried 63kg when third behind Native Chimes and Dashing Image 4 days later. He left a c76 rater, he returns a c66 rater. Just wish he hadn’t drawn barrier 1. CALLING CARD has loomed and peaked his last two. Should be ready now. ROMMELS RETURN took a big step from a maiden to beat Amber Highway last start. PLAYING ZEUS loves Port Hedland. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – ELAFELLA WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,6 1,4,5,6 2,3 1,2,3,4,5,7 Market Market
