Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on June 4, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 UTGARD LOKI loomed into the race like the winner last start but had all the sprint taken out of his legs sitting on top of a fairly solid tempo. Was left a sitting duck and was run down by a very impressive mare. Gets 2kg on Freez’emoff from that race and this looks much more like the Eurythmic Stakes when Warwick was able to lead and control. FREEZ’EMOFF is flying and there is absolutely no reason she can’t settle last of the six and circle them to another victory. TOUCH OF SILVER is chasing hard and continues to run strong races. NOIR DE RUE maps awkwardly. Could need to come around a compounding I’m A Love Man at some stage. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – UTGARD LOKI WIN RACE 2 MR DELEGATOR was big on debut when sitting right over the top of a hot tempo. Was run off his legs by Cliffs of Comfort who headed to town and took the scalp of Laverrod. The third horse Giant Leap looks like she will be a nice horse when resuming and the fourth filly Karijini Aurora went on to win her next three. Form from that race is super and he should lead them. WESTERN RHYTHM looked the goods at trials. Will likely settle in the last couple but expecting her to charge late. RAPID TRANSIT will likely open a nice eachway quote for a horse who ran a good race fresh. ALIEN FROM MARS continues to try hard without winning. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – MR DELEGATOR WIN RACE 3 REIGN OF FIRE looks a nice type for Colin Webster and an in-form Jordan Turner. Has looked professional at trials, travelling in the run and letting down when asked for an effort. From the gate should stalk the speed and enjoy a soft run forward of midfield. NOBELLITY was a sharp improver when leading at Pinjarra and making undefeated Vancouver youngster Dunbar really work for his victory. If she reproduces that effort she’s hard to run down. RAINFOREST only comes from a 400m jump out but looked to be hitting the line well enough to run a cheeky race at odds. BRAGWELL is drawn a tough gate on debut but every one of his trials have impressed. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – REIGN OF FIRE WIN RACE 4 PRIM AND PROPER resumed off a 400m jump out when taking on the older horses in a C5. Had them all beaten until the final stride when going under to Santiago Gal who herself is a 66+ winner. There is an absolute abundance of speed in this race and chasing midfield is the best position for her. LA VINA ran out of her skin in the Sheila Gwynne behind Angelic Ruler, Flower of War and Festival Miss. The only query on her is the 6 weeks between runs and back to 1000m. MIA DOLCE can never be discounted and Jade McNaught rides free rolling front runners particularly well. ZIEBELL will attempt to sit for the first time and if he handles stalking Mia Dolce looks a live hope. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – PRIM AND PROPER EACHWAY RACE 5 LAVERROD is race fit and has a tactical map position advantage over main rival Kay Cee. She will need to concede him weight and a head start in running to get past him. Last start Laverrod dominated a 78+ beating home subsequent winner Festival Miss and making a top-notch animal like Pym’s Royale look second rate. Hard to fault him. KAY CEE is a brilliant filly returning to the races. If she is ever going to be vulnerable against her own age it is first-up in a slowly run sit and sprint. PLATINUM BULLET can be ridden more forward in a race devoid of speed. POWER OF ST GEORGE was woefully disappointing last start, he is better than that. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – LAVERROD WIN RACE 6 BLACK DUCATI was backed as if unbeatable last start and loomed the winner before hitting a wall at the 75m and fading back into third. Drops back to 1200m and from the gate should settle one out and one back from the gun draw. She gets weight off Massimo from their last two encounters and looks hard to hold out. MASSIMO is going really well without winning. His last two on-speed efforts have been huge. MR GENOA is a bit of a forgotten horse in the field. Resumed last preparation in a hot race at Pinjarra when he was heavily commissioned and had no luck at all. MANKIND drops considerably in weight and runs for Chloe Azzopardi. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – BLACK DUCATI WIN RACE 7 STATE ATTORNEY has been a consistently good each way investment over the last few months. He needs speed on in his races and he needs an inside draw to be smothered up midfield. Gets both of those conditions here and finds another winnable race at an eachway quote. SON OF A GOD will be all the rage and is coming through the grades quickly and impressively. Minor concern that he gets planted 3 deep the trip without cover from the draw. WE’VE GOT DREAMS is a very speedy filly who will be looking to cross Kramden and find the fence. NIGHT VOYAGE is never impossible fresh. Loves the Belmont 1000. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – STATE ATTORNEY EACHWAY RACE 8 RESORTMAN vs SHOWMANSHIP will bring as much intrigue and interest as Laverrod vs Kay Cee in the Raconteur Stakes. RESORTMAN is undefeated after 3 and SHOWMANSHIP arguably should be three from three after finding horrendous traffic at his only defeat. Siding with RESORTMAN who looks likely to find the front again in a race without a deal of tempo. Salamaat and Bruce Almighty are the only other real on-speed types so expecting Kyra Yuill to adopt similar tactics to last start and take luck out of the equation. SHOWMANSHIP will settle midfield and come with a big run late. Had to dig deep first-up and that’s the sign of a top notch animal. MOSCHARD is flying but these two are stars. BRUCE ALMIGHTY maps perfectly. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – RESORTMAN WIN RACE 9 WESTERN PRIDE hasn’t been seen June of 2019 and now joins the Adam Durrant yard. She won all three starts in that preparation and returned a better rating figure every time she stepped out. At her last run she beat home Coming Around, Son of Bacchus and Gates of Babylon who have certainly made the form look good since. Soft trial behind Kay Cee and with even luck can keep her undefeated tag intact. ZEPHYR QUEEN is no slouch and will be looking to jump and run. Either rails or breezes outside I’m Icey and expect Chloe to go for home at the corner. NO APOLOGY will need luck but returned stylishly. SKINNEN TINS maps well and is always a blowout chance in this grade. Numbers: 10 – 2 – 13 – 1 Suggested Bet – WESTERN PRIDE WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2,4,7,8 1,4,5,6,9 7,10 2,10 Market Market
