Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 2, 2020April 6, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 TOMMY BLUE was a disappointing fourth of four last time out but that race was full of quality (Taladega, Eurasia, Long Beach) and the 1400 may have been a stretch too far early in her career. Back to 1200, blinkers on, Pike on and drawn to stalk a hot speed she can bounce back. CLIFFS OF COMFORT is undefeated after two and has the prized scalp of Laverrod. Has run time at both outings. SEMIGEL is not quite in the same class at Tommy Blue and Cliffs of Comfort but has hit form and maps to get a sweet run. RIVER BEAU was great in the same race last start. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – TOMMY BLUE WIN RACE 2 COMES A TIME has been knocking on the door all campaign and looks to have found a suitable race stepping out to 1400m for the first time. There is a lot of speed drawn in various parts of the line and Jarrad Noske should be sitting back midfield watching it all unfold in front of him. Has been finishing powerfully and gets his chance. EURASIA is in white hot form but the gate hurts his chances. Should be a three deep train for him to join but needs an ounce of luck. LAST OF THE LINE won like a horse with serious ability last weekend. Massive raw unit, not sure gate 1 suits him. SNIPPY MISS should have no excuse from the inside. Numbers: 7 – 3 – 9 – 12 Suggested Bet – COMES A TIME EACHWAY RACE 3 GATES OF BABYLON was ridden to his strengths last start. All of his career wins have been in faster than average time. Ridden for sustained speed he gets rivals chasing a fair way from home and gets another wonderful chance to do so here at 1400m. INDIAN CHANT only has Esperance and Kalgoorlie wins to his name but he has really turned a corner for Peter Fernie. Do not underestimate him. REWRITE THE STARS has had nothing go right in her short career. Has a lot of ability and from gate 1 with Pike she should go close. LUKE’S CHOICE has come back to racing particularly well. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – GATES OF BABYLON WIN RACE 4 DOUBLE JEOPARDY is yet to win a race in WA and will need a good positive ride from Chris Graham to get him into a position over the speed but if he can get that early luck he looks right in the mix. All of his efforts since coming to WA have been strong and this is arguably his weakest assignment yet. WARFISH should come out running from a wide gate and if he can get to the breeze then he’ll be hard to beat. AY TEE EMM has tapered off recently but early in the preparation was flying. BEDOUIN BELLE is going particularly well but the map looks very ugly for her with 59kg. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – DOUBLE JEOPARDY WIN RACE 5 PICTURE PERFECT has only had the seven starts for three career wins. Last time out she only won a moderate midweek 1800 in a heat of the Apprentice’s Challenge but did so in style. From the gate she should park one out and three back midfield and enjoys the run of the race with Pike aboard. HERE COME LENNI is another who maps to get a soft run which they’ll all need over the 2400. SECRET PEARL backs up off 7 days from the Oaks and there are no Tuscan Queens or Naughty By Natures in this field. THROWDOWN is an out and out stayer. He’ll be finishing off well. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 15 – 5 Suggested Bet – PICTURE PERFECT WIN RACE 6 LORENTINIO worked incredibly hard last start when eventually rolling to the top. They broke 1 minute for the first 1000 in a mile race on that occasion and he was one of the horses responsible for that tempo. Chloe Azzopardi has a wonderful record on him and he looks like leading up this field and getting things fairly cheap. SLICED BREAD was jumping out of the ground first-up and is even better suited here at 1400m. SHERPA LASS gets it soft three back the fence but this is her hardest test to date and would need to record a PB to keep her undefeated tag. UTGARD LOKI is tough and can do it at both ends but 60kg is a leveller. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – LORENTINIO WIN RACE 7 PLATOON hit a real flat spot first-up in the Bunbury Stakes and then rattled home in the last 75m, second-up he was chasing a long way out and Western Temple was taking him nowhere at the 600. Chased hard and lost no admirers. Looks like he will eat up the mile and should be rock hard fit now. WRINKLY is as honest and genuine and tough as they make them. No reason he can’t run them into the ground again. MEDIA BARON is stepping up in grade but impossible to fault the way he is going. The grey is flying. HARRY THOMAS is a marvel, 16th run in the preparation and racing as well as ever. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – PLATOON WIN RACE 8 GEMMA’S SON will dominate the betting and rightfully so. He is yet to taste defeat and his win in the Perth Stakes was nothing less than arrogant. He likely rolls forward to punch the breeze but from what we have seen he just gets better and better. WATCH ME DANCE has huge X-Factor and huge upside. She can reel off impeccable sections late in her races. DOM TO SHOOT has bypassed the lead up features and if he steps cleanly should enjoy a nice midfield passage. SOLAIA tramped wide the trip in the Gimcrack and still finished within a few lengths of the winner. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – GEMMA’S SON WIN Race 9 RED CAN MAN vs FLOYD vs LAVVEROD with CHIX PIC, LITTLE FISH and PLUTOCRACY as supporting acts makes for the race of the day. Throw in the flying 10 year old Tranquilla Sunrise with only 52kg and we’ve got a cracker. RED CAN MAN may have to sit outside of Tranquilla Sunrise doing all the work with 6.5kg more than him but he continues to improve and is stamping himself as a summer feature threat the way he is progressing. LAVVEROD tasted defeat last start but lumped 61kg and drops right down in the weights here. Ultra talented 3 year old. FLOYD backs up off 7 days after getting the win he deserved. No reason why he can’t win again. CHIX PIC should get a nice run midfield. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – RED CAN MAN WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,4 2,4,5,6 1,2,7 1,5,9 Market Market
