Scott Embry’s Friday Esperance Preview Posted on January 11, 2023January 11, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WATTO’S FURY finally broke his Esperance duck last start with a determined and gritty on speed win. Drops half a kilo on that victory and meets many of the same animals that he has been sparring against over the season so far. See no reason why he won’t find the front and give a sight again. SAUVEGARDE beat him home last start behind Westernize. Looks the logical danger and is racing well. BALLADEER drops 2kg and was only beaten just over half a length by Watto’s Fury 11 days ago. COUNTER DRIVE next best. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – WATTO’S FURY WIN RACE 2 SILVER FLYER was first-up at Pinjarra on Mandurah Cup Day and was backed at odds: $71 into $15. Ran a very cheeky second to Pennies Galore and beat home Fleur Delacour (races Thursday at Pinjarrra). Looks like he can find the front and the booking of Tash Faithfull catches the attention. If he crosses to the lead he’ll take running down. MR KOHANA is always there abouts. Loomed on straightening last start but couldn’t get past 80-1 pop The Frenchman. Should only improve here second-up and look the danger. FAULT was good two starts ago and now has a few gear changes thrown at him. LUCKY FOO FOO was solid at her Esperance debut but the barrier hurts. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – SILVER FLYER WIN RACE 3 HOTORIO looks to have found her most winnable race to date. Last start was thrown into a 3-year-old 0MWLY and only finished just over 4L from stablemate Lucky Sue and handy types Grey Mistress and Deetea (finished third to Mia Gusto in a 3 year old Plate on Saturday at Ascot). Drops back into a maiden, drops 2.5kg in weight and is drawn to enjoy the run of the race. Looks very winnable for her. SILVER SAX has her first start for Bruce Hyde and while her last two starts were at Leinster and Laverton she had ok grass form prior. LOST SMILE a watch without the trial. EXILE TED is awkwardly coming back in trip. Numbers: 9 – 6 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – HOTORIO WIN RACE 4 BIN SHALAA has been a different mare since joining the stables of Georgia Grant. Headed to the Goldfields in July 2022 and since then has won three races from only seven outings. Her first run in Esperance was off 65 days and she finished second to Watto’s Fury and beat home Balladeer and Westernize. This looks a nice assignment for her and provided she can carry the 59kg impost she should go well. BLAZING PASSION steps from C2 company into C5 company but has been wining like she would measure up. LEADING MAN is knocking on the door for another win. Coming back in trip a minor query. STARLIFT hasn’t fired a shot in a while. New stable, new environment. Keep safe. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – BIN SHALAA WIN RACE 5 KENNY THE KING has had two runs this preparation, fourth behind Wheatstack Thief, Taxi and Count Grundy in a C2 mile and then fourth behind Count Grundy, Ilzaam and Taxi in a C2 2000. Comes back 400m, drops half a kilo and can find the top or park behind Saffiano if he’s allowed to roll. Looks a nice race for him. ILZAAM was strong at the end of 2000 last start. If she can reproduce that run, she’s a live hope from an inside draw. SAFFIANO can be hit and miss. He was really good last start from off speed. Interesting to see how they ride him here. HABIB is going well but the draw is a cruel blow. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – KENNY THE KING EACHWAY RACE 6 JUST STRIKING won three on the bounce before getting back on a day that you simply couldn’t make an inch of ground. From the 1000m marker there were only two winning chances in that race: Market Stryke and Koranis. He wasn’t too bad all things considered and coming back to 1400m will hopefully see him rebound to his best. WARZACHANTZ beat him home in that race and is looking like he’s ready to win. Comes from the punters favourite POT combination: Burger & Staples. BABY BLUES trialled well and then was run off her legs first-up. DEEL RED is well placed into this grade. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – JUST STRIKING WIN RACE 7 MARKET STRYKE has been great since heading down to the stables of Josh Brown. Last start backed up off 7 days into a C5 mile and was brave in defeat behind Koranis. Prior to that held his own behind subsequent winner Kitgum. Coming back 200m into a 58+ 1400 looks suitable and he can kick through to lead from his inside draw. Another nice race for him. WHEATSTACK THIEF may need to cover some ground from a wide gate but that’s not the worst thing for him. IRRITABLE RODNEE gets in with no weight and ran his best race since joining Neil Dellar fresh. WATCH ME NEY NEY can sprint well first-up. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – MARKET STRYKE WIN RACE 8 SATURDAY SUN headed back down to the grass after seemingly failing to handle the track conditions in Broome on the dirt. Lead for a large proportion of that race and was only run down late by Captain Sharmane. That race has already produced Memorable Miss for victory and he drops from a provincial C3 back into a country C2. DAWN AMNESTY finished third to Blazing Passion and then third to Watto’s Fury and Bin Shalaa in a 58+. Another who is well placed back into a C2. GAMBLER’S GOLD ran well at his Esperance debut when narrowly defeated. GIANCANA is getting close. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SATURDAY SUN WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,8,9 1,2,3,5,6,7 1,3 1,4,5 Market Market
