Scott Embry’s Friday Albany Preview Posted on January 28, 2025January 28, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 GINGERS SISTER finished seventh on debut and was beaten 4.5L and in the recent barrier trial at Lark Hill was beaten 5L. There will be plenty happy to query those race and trial form lines but this is a weak maiden. OPTIMAL was backed into $1.50 last start and was given every chance by Tash Faithfull but could offer nothing in the run to the line and finished a fading third behind Missijay and Great Deal. Drops right back to 1230m now. PRIDE OF HALLOWELL wasn’t disgraced on debut in a handy line-up. SCENERY is a long time maiden but can sprint well fresh. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – GINGERS SISTER WIN RACE 2 COCOON GIRL ran second on debut behind Chevap and was heartbreaking for a lot of punters after being backed from $41 into $7.50. Beaten in the final stride in a narrow photo after a plunge like that is seriously flattening for those involved but hopefully they can get some back here (at a much shorter quote). QUICK COOKIE was scratched from the long weekend to save for this. GREAT DEAL finished second to Missijay last start in an improved performance. BLING BEACH may still need further. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – COCOON GIRL WIN RACE 3 BEST OF THE GODS probably should have finished a bit closer last start. Got held up behind horses on straightening at Barker which becomes a difficult assignment for any horse/rider thereafter and thought he did a good job to still finish third. Steps out to 1500m which may stretch him but this is an easier race on paper. MISTRESS OF EXCEESS won well last start and steps out in distance. MISSIJAY again rolls to the top just like her maiden win. PURE CHINO has blinkers added and hopefully that will see her bounce back. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – BEST OF THE GODS WIN RACE 4 I DREAMED A DREAM looks really well placed here by Steve Wolfe and a really good ride for Holly Watson who heads down to Albany on a Friday for a full book for Wolfey. Won a 60+ Graduation two back and then finished runner-up behind Rommeo last time out. This is great placement. BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE has been a ripper since joining Sam Faithfull. Logical danger and dropping 3kg is a luxury for her. More than measures up. HOOLAHOOPS improved last start and caught the eye late. BRAVE CONTENDER wasn’t bad at Ascot. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – I DREAMED A DREAM WIN RACE 5 AVOIDANCE finished fourth in the Fitzpatrick two back behind Playing Rio. He’s more than capable of breezing and winning if Agent Jay holds up. If he crosses, it’s definitely advantage Avoidance. AGENT JAY is flying. He went from 1240 to 1500 last start and was still able to lead, control and run them into the ground. He’s stopped the clock 2.5L faster than average at a distance that he was unproven at. Does he lead? WHAT A PRINCE has had a freshen since leaving Geraldton and brings real X-Factor to Albany. FRANTIC WAR deserved that win. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – AVOIDANCE WIN RACE 6 GUARDING HEAVEN is brilliantly placed by Boy Hill. We’re talking about a mare who has won a C3 at Pinjarra, placed in 2x 3 year old midweekers and was 3x Saturday Placed as a 2 year old. Poorly drawn, 60kg to carry – both obvious concerns, but trusting that she’s the best horse in the race and can overcome those obstacles. SAILORALONG broke his maiden well and wasn’t disgraced last start. HOT CHATTER is racing below what she showed 12 months ago but is there abouts. SONG STORY improved last time out. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – GUARDING HEAVEN WIN RACE 7 MORE LIKLEY was 59 days between runs last start when winning in this grade over 1600m. He got away from them late and should only be improving fitness wise. Looks winnable for him again. MAKIN PROPHETS comes through the same race. Not easy to ride and not easy to follow with great confidence but he’s got the ability. VONSNIP looks like she’ll get the gun run. MADAM KISSES is probably on her limit at 1500m and still has a mountain of weight even after the claim. Numbers: 4 – 8 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – MORE LIKELY WIN Market Market
