Scott Embry’s Friday Albany Preview Posted on April 18, 2024April 18, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SPEEDY NOVA very importantly gets back to 1000m. Just feel at this stage of her career she might be a one trick pony and that’s leading over the short course. Her best runs have been over 1000 – 1100 and she’s been a little vulnerable late so coming back to the sprint trip is a big plus and Lucy Fiore should have her in front for a long way here. OFCOURSE SHE HAS has toe and will look to use the gate. FLICK THE SWTICH comes through the Brave Spirit race which should hold up as a form reference. ROSENTREA has shown ability from time to time in a short career. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – SPEEDY NOVA WIN RACE 2 GOOD SONG tried to match motors with talented stablemate Brave Spirit first-up but in the end was no hope of holding him out, especially when he was able to get an inside run up along the cutaway zone. He finished second beaten 2.13L, there was a further 2L back to third and that should hold him in good stead of this second-up assignment. HEARTROOM QUEEN makes her debut and ran into a nice one at trials (Watch Me Rock). ONE ABOVE ALL didn’t fire a shot on debut but you must respect Michael Lane heading to Albany. GREAT DEAL was a big improver first-up to second-up. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – GOOD SONG WIN RACE 3 HENRY THE AVIATOR should be breaking back into the winner’s enclosure very soon. Since a freshen he has finished second on both occasions and is racing like he wants 1500. Gets every chance from the gun draw. BELGRANO BELLE is really well placed first-up by Ike Racing and can hold a spot from the draw. THE SPRUIKER is in an awkward part of his career where he is finding the horses in town a bit too sharp in 66+/72+ grade and then comes to Albany and cops top weight in the open handicaps. CATCH THESE HANDS is racing below his best. He’s got far more ability than currently displayed. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR WIN RACE 4 DOUBLE THUMBS UP has had a great preparation and won impressively last start gunning down Beautiful Baroque in the final 200. Ran right through the line and certainly ran out the trip in the Great Southern Cup behind Beats Of War. DEADLY AND FAST can sit back and show a pretty decent turn of foot for this grade of stayer. THE ROAN RANGER is not an easy horse to catch but he’s more than capable at this level. He’s 34 days between runs and gets back but watch for the grey late. CANDLELIGHT SHERRIF broke his maiden well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – DOUBLE THUMBS UP WIN RACE 5 MISS EUGEN was a much improved run last start and the way that she attacked the line gave every indication she would run out the mile. Draws well, backs up off 8 days and now that she’s found some form it would be no surprise to see her hold it. PUNTERS PILOT was well supported after breaking his maiden impressively on Cup Day. Looks a danger. SAFE RAPPA could nearly lead this field from the outside draw. Chance from there. SHUHBECK is going along okay but the barrier draw means he’ll need some luck or a big steer. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – MISS EUGEN WIN RACE 6 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE is having his first start in WA for Michael Lane and Cassey Martinan. He won on debut back in December 2022 and hasn’t won another race since, however, he’s only been to a C1 once in his life and outside of that he has contested races tougher than this. His most recent in VIC was a 58+ 1400 where running third after leading. Should be a nice provincial/country type. HOT CHATTER was again annihilated in betting but again found one better than her last week. PENNED is fresh and goes well first-up. BERRY BERRY GOOD goes well from the soft draw. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE WIN RACE 7 SACRED OATH was simply dominant last start. There’s clearly a motor under the hood and provided she goes straight and keeps her mind on the job she should be within striking distance here. Worth following. LINDEN’S GOLD trialled really well at Lark Hill leading into his return to racing where he attacked a m66+ and was beaten 5L behind Malkar Pindari, Cross Statement, Vampi At Play, Halatorion and Count The Sessions. Looks a big drop in grade. ROCAPOZZENE can be hit and miss but back into a C5 looks suited. PENNIES GALORE has made her way through the grades nicely this campaign. Numbers: 12 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – SACRED OATH WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,5,6 2,5 1,2,3,5 2,3,4,6,7,10,12 Market Market
