Matt Young’s Saturday Bunbury Preview Posted on March 28, 2025March 28, 2025 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 Intriguing race to kick things off. MADAM PUBLISHER (4) has yet to recapture her better form since returning but has the speed to potentially lead this and from there could be a sharp improver. HES NEVER BEEN BETA (2) returns and has a nice draw and should be respected. CAPTAIN STIRLING (3) looks the best horse long term, he is still learning the caper but lacks a little bit of early dash, may have to do the work and outstay them. CAPTAIN SAID SO (1) has some tricks but plenty of high speed, a safe getaway would see him in the finish. PRINCE OF PAIN (5) improving but a tricky draw. Tips: 4 3 2 1 Suggested Bet: MADAM PUBLISHER (4) to win. Race 2 FRANCO ENCORE (6) looks well placed on return, he hasn’t been seen since finishing well back in the WA Derby, he has plenty of early speed and I think he’ll burn to the top and look the one to beat here. SWITCH BLADE (1) has the nice draw and can do enough to hold up and be close enough, looks a good place chance. GREVIS (11) will find this grade more suitable and am expecting a forward showing from him. MIKI WINDERMERE (3) lacks a little bit of early speed which could place him in the breeze throughout and then it becomes more difficult for him. SWEET DUNCAN (2) and SPIRITOFANANGEL (8) next best in terms of novelty hopes. Tips: 6 11 1 3 Suggested Bet: FRANCO ENCORE (6) to win. Race 3 KINGSEAT (6) has been in superb form as of late and after doing things wrong early, he was a big run to finish 6th last time out, he has options from the draw and looks the one to beat. LEAVE YOUR HAT ON (7) will have to overcome a wide draw but has shown promise since coming to WA. OCEANFRONT (5) was disappointing last time out but can bounce back to her better form, keep safe. REG LAWSON (1) drawn to be prominent in the novelties. SKIPPIN CLASS (3) can bounce back after disappointing last time out. Tips: 6 7 5 1 Suggested Bet: KINGSEAT (6) to win. Race 4 ALTA ALLURE (10) looks well placed, her form has been solid, and the draw is no deterrent, she can position up and let things unfold and use her wonderful turn of foot in the final circuit to gather them in. CHAMPAGNE EVERYONE (7) was a strong effort in the Golden Girls Mile, draw is tricky as she likes to lead but that last run cannot be overlooked. HUNT THE MAGIC (6) better suited to the middle distance; she has been consistent. WANDERING GIRL (2) can be placed and should be included in the novelties with the consistent stablemates PUSHBUTTON ROCK (4) and REMARKABLE ROCK (9). Tips: 10 7 6 9 Suggested Bet: ALTA ALLURE (10) to win. Race 5 Could be a little bit happening in the early part here. COLD HARD CASH (7) likely to be the beneficiary of it all and he is a versatile horse, he sustained a long run to win last time out at Bridgetown and looks well placed and suited to making it back-to-back victories. WICKED HUSTLER (9) looks better suited in this grade, appeared to have every chance last time out but overall form has been solid. LUHRSY (1) has the nice draw and will be doing his best to hold them out early and becoming a novelty player. MASTER LEIGHTON (3) has been consistent and won’t be far away with ALFREDI (5). LITTLE BITOF FUN (8) drawn to get a good run and is some value for your trifecta’s and first four’s. Tips: 7 9 8 1 Suggested Bet: COLD HARD CASH (7) to win. Race 6 Hall Jnr v De Campo; Mister Smartee v Magnificent Storm, it has all the makings of a classic battle between two wonderful horses and two masterful drivers. Both will be trying to get in front of the other and get the advantage in the early stages, that’ll be the race. OTIS (3) looks likely to get to the pegs first ahead of THE MIKI TAKER (1) who lacks early speed. WAVERIDER (4) will also be driving forward early but it looks more challenging for him. While this is happening MISTER SMARTEE (9) will be punching hard through in the centre and as will MAGNIFICENT STORM (10), whichever of those two gets the advantage, they will run to the top and likely win. I thought MAGNIFICENT STORM (10) could get the bounce early and have him slightly on top and with a race run under his belt. MIGHTY RONALDO (5) was brave last time out, over the longer trip he will be looking for a position. STEEL THE SHOW (8) will be running on with TRICKY MIKI (11) and MIGHTY CONQUEROR (12). Tips: 10 9 3 5 Suggested Bet: MAGNIFICENT STORM (10) to win. Race 7 COURAGE OF LOMBO (1) has been a costly horse to me as of late but she is presented with another opportunity here, she has the good draw and has the speed to lead, this race lacks a bit of overall depth, and she can do enough to win. SUNDANCER RAINBOW (4) will just need some speed on, but she will be winding up strongly. RODGER JAMES (2) lacks early burn but will be closing off well. ALEXANDRA THEGREAT (3) is racing soundly but think she needs to get to the pegs to win. AMARETTO ANGEL (7) has very good early speed, but they might drive her for one run here and she can be dangerous from anywhere. WESMYDAD (8) is a maiden but has drawn well, novelty chance. Tips: 1 7 4 2 Suggested Bet: COURAGE OF LOMBO (1) each way. Race 8 THE BETTOR SIDE (5) returns and showed a lot of promise as a 2yo, Aiden choosing to drive him gives the strong push that he is ready to go. ISEEUBABY (6) has the race fitness and drops from a very strong Friday grade race, I would be very keen on her if it wasn’t for the way she finished the last 100m off in that event, in any case, she will be dangerous. SEASIDE MAGIC (4) could find his way to the top here and has options, won’t be far away. WICKED LOVER (7) has a tricky draw to work with but has talent. Good competitive race to close Bunbury Cup night. Tips: 5 6 4 7 Suggested Bet: ISEEUBABY (6) each way. Market Market
