Matt Young’s Saturday Northam Preview Posted on January 22, 2026January 23, 2026 | Posted by Matt Young Race 1 DARE TO LIE (4) was a big run two starts ago after copping a nasty check and last run didn’t have much luck in the last 400m, looks to have some early speed and could find the lead and be very hard to beat. NOWUSEEMEGRIN (6) has been impressive since debuting and did plenty of work last time out, should be in the top end of the money. BATAVIA WEST (2) has the speed to lead early and has options, novelty chance with PURELY PANDEMIC (3) who lacks early speed therefore the draw could be challenging and a chance to LOOKINGOODADDA (8) who trialled soundly. Tips: 4 6 2 3 Suggested Bet: DARE TO LIE (4) to win. Race 2 Open race. KARAOKE STAR (7) has drawn to get the perfect run behind the likely leader, and the last few runs should tighten him up well to have the last crack and be very dangerous. DON’T GOIN THEWATER (1) is a decent front running type and could give some cheek in this grade. HUGHEY (5) will appreciate facing the mobile again, he has been racing well if you look past his recent stand form. THE MERCENARY (4) can get keen in his races and likely heads forward at the start. WELLOILED (3), MISTA EDITORIAL and VELVET SHADOW (10) can run on if tempo suits. Tips: 7 5 1 4 Suggested Bet: KARAOKE STAR (7) each way. Race 3 LUZIA (3) has the draw advantage over some of the main rivals and has some early speed and some talent, expecting a decent return here. CHEKKER (4) has always shown promise and trialled up soundly, must be respected on return. SLIPALONG SAINT (10) debuts in the West for Corey Peterson and must overcome a tricky draw but Corey does a good job with his team, and this should be kept safe, won his previous two before coming across the Nullarbor. ICANPLAY (1) has come back soundly with recent trial performances, nice draw and can feature in the novelties with WESMEDAD (7) who will get that soft run. REDDY TO FLY (6) map looks a bit tricky but last run was more encouraging of him bouncing back to his more consistent form. Tips: 3 4 10 1 Suggested Bet: LUZIA (3) to win. Race 4 Competitive race upcoming. TUBBS FARQUHAR (5) is racing in good form and has decent gate speed, could potentially get across to the top here or at least be handy in the run and will run well. BIG BOZZ (3) has come back well and could be further improved, bit of depth in the race takes away a bit of the confidence on him. ROCKIN LE MONDE (7) is racing well, had every chance last time out but wasn’t beaten far, tricky draw. GOGGINS (8) is further improved and think he will be winning on soon, include in your novelties. VINTAGE BLU (4) has been consistent and could be driven forward tonight. Tips: 5 3 8 7 Suggested Bet: BIG BOZZ (3) each way. Race 5 CHACO EAGLE (10) has a good turn of foot, and the tempo could suit him to be able to overcome the tough draw, but it won’t be an easy task, coming off a metro win recently and he will be hoping they put it on for him again, he is versatile. BET ON THE RIVER (2) has the speed to lead and has options from there, not at his best but distance suits. BLUE BLAZER (7) could be potent if the gaps open, he loves this draw and style and has come back well. ILLAWONG MUSTANG (9) has a good record at the short course but needs a few things to go right. BEACH CAPTAIN (3) will be racing on speed, might have to breeze but does stick on well from that position. Map is awkward for MISTER PICCOLO (5) and XCITE ME (6) but both have decent form lines. Tips: 10 7 2 9 Suggested Bet: CHACO EAGLE (10) to win. Race 6 SWANBOURNE SPUNK (5) has had a stable change and has been consistently around the mark in this grade, expecting him to be right in the thick of it again. CIAO BABE (1) is going soundly since returning, this grade is a better class for her, has the speed to lead early and has options. HEAVENLY BLISS (3) has had a few opportunities, could find her way to the lead here. GALVINSTON JOHN (8) can bounce back and must be respected, he has been over racing badly in recent runs. BAZZA MAC (9) will be running on, looks more of a novelty chance. CRACKA TINNY (2) early speed is concerning in this. Tips: 5 1 3 8 Suggested Bet: CIAO BABE (1) each way. Market Market
