Friar’s Legacy Breaks Through: One to Watch This Spring Posted on August 13, 2025August 14, 2025 | Posted by Julio Santarelli Friar’s Legacy Breaks Through – One to Watch This Spring Punters who stuck with Friar’s Legacy were rewarded at Belmont on Wednesday, as the promising gelding finally delivered on the hype with a gritty maiden win. After two underwhelming starts, the three-year-old son of Written By showed his true colours in the Lawn Pride Australia Maiden (1200m), leading from the jump and fending off strong challenges from Gangster Goddess and Dark Ambition. Despite windy conditions, Friar’s Legacy held firm to win by a length, with a big gap back to third. Starting favourite, Friar’s Legacy justified the early confidence of co-trainer Ben Pearce, who’s been bullish about the horse’s potential from the outset. Pearce hinted that the gelding could be aimed at longer distances this prep, possibly even the Guineas if he continues to improve. “I’ve been rapping him up for a while,” Pearce said. “He’s come back super this prep, and I think he’ll get a mile as he learns to settle.” With another run or two likely before any big decisions are made, Friar’s Legacy is shaping as a horse to follow this Spring Carnival. Keep an eye on his next start – he could be one to include in your early multis or futures plays.
