Deane Lester’s Preview

RACE 3 NO. 4 NAME THE DAY

Lightly raced six year old NAME THE DAY has improved at each of his four runs this campaign and looks the one to beat when he contests the K.A.Morrison Handicap (2000m). The Ciaron Maher trained gelding was narrowly beaten when finishing 2nd behind PIN YOUR HOPES over 1600 metres at Flemington on June 25. PIN YOUR HOPES then enhanced that form by winning again at Caulfield a week later. Whilst this is NAME THE DAY’S first attempt at 2000 metres, he gives every indication that he will run this distance and appears very well graded in this grade. A repeat of his last run should see him winning this race and NAME THE DAY represents one of the better bets of the day.

RACE 4 NO. 3 DANIELA ROSA

DANIELA ROSA has returned to racing in stunning form and looks well placed to complete a hat trick of wins when she runs in the Rising Stars Final (1800m). The Michael Moroney trained filly was dominant winning over 1400 metres at Sale on June 19 before an equally impressive win over talented filly EURO ANGEL in the Rivette Series Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 9. This looks an ideal progression for her in both class and distance, and she drops 5kg on her last start win. She should race near the lead and prove hard to beat again.

RACE 6 NO. 2 VOODOO LAD

VOODOO LAD will start one of the shortest priced favourites of the day when he contests the Bruce Gadsden Handicap (1200m) and should justify that quote by recording his 7th career win from just 13 starts. The four year old was impressive winning over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley on June 18 before a brave 2nd behind RUETIGGER in the All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) at Flemington on July 9. This looks an easier race and he should be improved by his first experience of the Flemington straight track. He gets the benefit of in-form apprentice Michael Dee’s 1.5kg claim and VOODOO LAD appears to have his class edge on his rivals.
