Deane’s Flemington Best Bets

Deane Lester’s Preview

RACE 1 NO. 8 WILLI WILLI

Lightly raced four year old WILLI WILLI should be fitter for two runs back from a spell and looks a strong winning chance when he contests the Bitalli Handicap (1800m). The Craig Widdison trained gelding was unsuited by a steady pace when finishing 6th behind WISE HERO over 1400 metres at Flemington on January 1. He reeled off some off the best late sectionals of the meeting and should relish a step up in distance this time. He is a Flemington winner and looks ideally graded to return to winning form.

RACE 3 NO. 1 CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE is an emerging stayer from the Darren Weir stable that should continue on his winning  way when he runs in the Patrobas Handicap (2000m). The son of Raise The Flag sprinted quickly to win over 2000 metres at Mornington two starts back then proved too strong for his older stablemate LAST WEEK over 2000 metres at Flemington on January 1. He drops back to his own age group here and has the benefit of two runs at this distance, whereas as only two of his rivals have contested races in this distance range. He is bound for next month’s Tasmanian Derby (2200m) and appeals as one of the standout bets of the day.

RACE 4 NO. 2 ADDISON

Lightly raced mare ADDISON has been racing in terrific form and represents the best bet of the day when she runs in the Dolly’s Dream Handicap (2000m). The four year old has been patiently handled by connections having had just five starts for three wins and a last start fast finishing 2nd behind SHENANDOAH over 1800 metres at Caulfield on January 7. She is ready for a step up in distance, should relish the spacious Flemington circuit and Hall OF Fame jockey Damien Oliver takes the mount. She is a stakes class mare in the making and ADDISON should prove too strong for this field.
