Extra SuperPicks for Flemington – Races 1 & 2

Race 1

First 2yo race of the season, always tricky races but SUNLIGHT has trialled well twice and has the benefit of straight track experience.

SuperPick - Race 1 No. 11 SUNLIGHT - Place Boost

Race 2

This is a solid race but I’m expecting a big run from RELLSON at nice odds.

SuperPick - Race 2 No. 11 RELLSON - Win Boost

RACE 2 NO. 11 RELLSON

Lightly raced galloper RELLSON can successfully handle a sharp rise in class when he runs in the Antler Luggage Stakes (1400m). The three year old worked home stylishly on debut to finish 4th over 1100 metres at Bendigo on September 1 before a brilliant win in fast time over 1400 metres at Wangaratta on September 19. Whilst this is a tougher race, he looks very progressive and represents each way value in a competitive event.

RACE 7 NO. 1 ALMANDIN

The reigning Melbourne Cup champion ALMANDIN takes the next step to defending his crown when he runs in the Bart Cummings (2500m) and he looks perfectly placed to continue on his winning way. The Robert Hickmott trained gelding scored a stunning win in the JRA Trophy (2530m) at Flemington on September 16. He only needs to hold that form to win again, however the likelihood is that he will be fitter for his last run as that was only his second run for the season. Whilst this is a stronger race, ALMANDIN is a truly gifted stayer that should win again.

RACE 9 NO. 8 NEW TIPPERARY

Sydney based trainer Joseph Pride has a great strike rate when he ventures south to Melbourne with his horses and he looks to have found the ideal race for NEW TIPPERARY when he lines up in the Paris Lane Handicap (1400m). The son of High Chapparal will be fitter for his first-up 6th behind COMIN THROUGH over 1400 metres at Randwick on September 16. He recorded good closing sectionals on that occasion and this looks a slightly weaker race. He also boasts the impressive 2nd-up stats of three wins and a second placing from four attempts, whilst his record at this distance reads two wins from three starts. Champion rider Damien Oliver takes the ride and NEW TIPPERARY looks a great winning chance.
