Deane’s Caulfield Preview Posted on August 12, 2016August 15, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO.4 HURSLEY HURSLEY has enjoyed a stellar winter campaign and can continue on his winning way when he runs in the ANZAC Commemoration Handicap (2000m). The four year old has won two of his past three runs at this track and distance in recent weeks including a dominant win defeating PERFECT LIFELINE on July 30. He drops 2.5kg on that win and looks drawn for a sweet run from barrier two. The early season four year olds have a marvellous strike rate in these races and HURSLEY can continue that trend. RACE 2 NO.7 KANIANA KANIANA backs up after a luckless run at Flemington last week and looks one of the better bets of the day when she contests the Legacy 2016 Badge Appeal Handicap (1600m). The Darren Weir trained mare was slightly slow to begin and never got into a winning spot when finishing 5th over 1400 metres at Flemington last Saturday. She will be even fitter for that run and the extra distance of this race is in her favour. She’s a mare that likes to race on the pace and dictate which she should be able to achieve at this distance. It’s a modest race and an ideal opportunity for KANIANA to return to winning form. RACE 3 NO.4 LEICA DAY LEICA DAY resumed from a spell with a terrific 3rd behind ULMANN over 1400 metres at Caulfield on July 16 and looks the testing material when he runs in the Beveridge Williams Handicap (1600m). The chestnut was baulked for a run at a crucial time of the race last time, so his effort to finish in the placings was full of merit and ULMANN enhanced that form reference with a very good win at Flemington last Saturday. The five year old will appreciate a step up in distance and gets the benefit of Ben Allen’s 3kg claim. He has a very good winning strike rate of 6 wins from 14 starts to date and should prove hard to beat in this race. Bet Now!
