Deane Lester’s Mornington Best Bets Posted on September 28, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO.3 VAINSTREAM VAINSTREAM resumes from a spell when he runs in the Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m) and looks the standout bet of the day. The four year old has built an impressive record to date having had six starts for three wins and two placings. It was only two starts back that he ran a brave third behind SAM’S IMAGE and NATURE STRIP in the Super VOBIS Gold Dash (1100m) which is an irresistible formline for this grade of race. He has trialled well in preparation for his return to racing and appears to have a class edge on his rivals; should be winning. RACE 5 NO.7 SWORN EVIDENCE Handy mare SWORN EVIDENCE has returned from a long spell in good form and looks the one to beat when she runs in the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m). The Darren Weir trained mare resumed with a handy 6th behind stablemate FREEHEARTED over 1000 metres at Sandown Hillside on August 15 before a strong win over 1100 metres at Ballarat on September 5. She will be even fitter for those runs and the extra distance of this race is in her favour. She is drawn for a sweet run and looks ideally placed to record his third career victory. RACE 7 NO.1 OUR VENICE BEACH The feature race of the day is the RM Ansett Classic (2400m) and imported stayer OUR VENICE BEACH looks ready to win his first race in Australia following two runs back from a spell. The son of Galileo impressed with his first-up second behind gun stayer TRAP FOR FOOLS over 2040 metres at Moonee Valley on August 25 before running an even race to finish 7th behind NIGHT’S WATCH in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 22. He will appreciate stepping up in distance, should be fitter for recent racing and looks to have a class edge on his rivals. The Macedon Lodge team won this race in 2016 with ALMANDIN before going on to Melbourne Cup glory and, whilst OUR VENICE BEACH may not reach those heights, should prove hard to beat. Market Market
