Deane Lester’s Mornington Best Bets

RACE 1 NO.2 WEE NESSY

WEE NESSY is a talented filly from the Mick Price/ Michael Kent Jnr stable that has returned to racing in good form and looks the one to beat when she contests the 3YO Fillies Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m). The daughter of Snitzel scored a maiden win over 1000 metres at Bendigo on August 25 before a solid 6th behind NANAGUI in the Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on September 10. This is a significant class drop, top rider Jamie Kah takes the ride and she should justify her short price and record her second career win.

RACE 5 NO.2 SEINERS EXPRESS

SEINERS EXPRESS made an encouraging return to racing recently and seems very well placed when he contests the Colts, Geldings and Entires Benchmark 70 Handicap (1500m). The five year old worked to the line nicely when finishing 5th behind SANDY PRINCE over 1300 metres at Sandown on September 7. That was a much stronger race than he faces here, he is drawn for a good run, receives the benefit of Celine Gaudray’s 3kg claim and is a second-up winner in the past. On a tough program, SEINERS EXPRESS represents the best bet of the day.

RACE 7 NO.3 THE GOOD FIGHT

The feature race of the day is the R.M.Ansett Classic (2400m) and THE GOOD FIGHT looks ready to improve at each way odds. The Mike Moroney trained gelding was badly held up for a run when finishing unplaced behind HIGH EMOCEAN over 2500 metres at Flemington on September 10. He should now be at peak fitness following three runs back from a long spell and gets the services of Group One winning jockey Jamie Mott. THE GOOD FIGHT is a tough old stayer that looks a good value play on the Mornington card.
