Deane Lester’s Flemington Best Bets Posted on October 29, 2021October 29, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.11 FANGIRL Champion trainer Chris Waller has won the Carbine Club twice in recent years and can continue that trend with FANGIRL when she runs in the Carbine Club Stakes (1600m). The daughter of Sebring has returned in flying form with recent wins over 1400 metres, firstly in maiden company at Goulburn before stepping up in class and winning the Reginald Allen Stakes at Randwick on October 16. She is now looking for the extra distance of this race, elite rider James McDonald retains the ride and FANGIRL can provide punters with a flying start to Derby Day representing the best bet of the day. RACE 4 NO.3 OXLEY ROAD OXLEY ROAD is a progressive sprinter from the Peter Moody stable that appears ideally placed to continue on his winning way when he contests the TAB Linlithgow Stakes (1200m). The four year old is a brother to 2019 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner EXCEEDANCE and has inherited the family’s speed and talent registering three wins and two placings from six starts to date including a solid last start win in the Caulfield Sprint (1100m) on October 16. He is already a straight track winner, stays down on 53kg and exciting young rider Blaike McDougall gets his chance to show his talents on the big stage of Victoria Derby day. RACE 8 NO.3 SUPERSTORM The Kennedy Cantala (1600m) has again drawn together a very even and talented field of milers running for the $2 million on offer and the West Australian galloper SUPERSTORM gets into a very suitable race that can see him record his first Group one win. The five year old won the Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley three starts back before subsequent group one placings in the Underwood Stakes and Toorak Handicap in recent weeks. The key elements for him in this race are that he finally gets back to Flemington and the wider draw suits his racing style. It will be a high pressure race with RIODINI and BUFFALO RIVER carving out some very fast early sectionals which will suit SUPERSTORM’S race style and he represents the best value of the day.
