Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on September 16, 2022September 16, 2022 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 4 NO.2 AFT CABIN AFT CABIN should stake his claim for next month’s Caulfield Guineas with a win in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m). The son of Astern was outstanding in winning his maiden over 1400 metres at Sandown Hillside on August 10. He then dropped back in distance and rose in class when finishing a brave 2nd behind JACQUINOT in the McNeil Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 27. Trainer James Cummings has found the ideal race for AFT CABIN who makes appeal as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 5 NO.13 BONHEUR The Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) for the fillies looks a very open race with a host of chances however the Busuttin/ Young trained filly BONHEUR is making good progress and seems over the odds. The daughter of I Am Invincible showed promise as a two year old in some good races and commenced her three year old season with a win in maiden grade over 1200 metres at Moe on September 6. She will appreciate a step up in distance, looks drawn for a good run and seems comfortable on any track conditions. Elite jockey Ben Melham takes the ride and BONHEUR represents the best value of the day. RACE 8 NO.4 CHAIN OF LIGHTNING Unbeaten mare CHAIN OF LIGHTNING is aiming for her sixth consecutive win when she tackles in the How Now Stakes (1200m). The four year old was dynamic in winning at this track and distance in the Cockram Stakes (1200m) on August 27. She possesses great versatility in that she can race on the pace or settle off the speed and she has won on dry and soft tracks. The trainer/ jockey combination of Peter Moody and Jamie Kah are striking at 40% in recent times and CHAIN OF LIGHTNING appears poised to give them another feature win. Market Market
