Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on October 12, 2021October 12, 2021 | Posted by Deane Lester RACE 1 NO.3 CHEERFUL MOMENT Penfolds Victoria Derby aspirant CHEERFUL MOMENT takes his next step to the Blue Riband classic run at Flemington on October 30 when he tackles the 3YO Benchmark 70 Handicap (1600m). The son of Mongolian Khan endured a fruitful WA winter campaign before venturing east where he made an encouraging Victorian debut finishing a close 2nd behind CUBAN LINK over 1420 metres at Flemington on September 22. He will be fitter for that run and the extra distance of this race will be in his favour. Jye McNeil, fresh from his group one success aboard I’M THUNDERSTRUCK in the Toorak Handicap, retains the ride on CHEERFUL MOMENT who looks a strong winning chance. RACE 2 NO.3 FLOATING ARTIST Melbourne’s leading stable of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have in-form galloper FLOATING ARTIST attempting to get into Saturday’s Caulfield Cup (2400m) with a victory in the Coongy Cup (2000m). The imported galloper has been a revelation this spring winning three consecutive races in recent weeks; firstly over 1600 metres at Moonee Valley before a commanding victory over 1700 metres at Flemington and finally completing the hat trick of wins over 1800 metres at Sandown Hillside on September 25. This is a harder race but, in his current form, there seems no reason why the extra distance of this race won’t suit and he can continue on his winning way. RACE 8 NO. 9 SIRILEO MISS SIRILEO MISS has commenced her spring campaign in stunning form and appears ready to record her first stakes win when she contests the Ladies Day Vase (1600m). The four year old has been dominant in two wins this campaign and should relish the extra distance of this race. She is drawn to enjoy the run of the race and comeback jockey Linda Meech can add to her already spring with another semi-feature race. It’s a competitive race with some handy mares engaged, however SIRILEO MISS has more upside than her rivals and represents the best bet of the day. Market Market
