Deane Lester’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on August 17, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 2 NO.3 RILLITO Talented mare RILLITO has been freshened up from a successful winter campaign and looks the testing material when she runs in the Mares Handicap (1100m). The James Cummings trained galloper was a brilliant winner at Caulfield two starts back before a fast closing 2nd behind SHARPNESS over 1200 metres at Caulfield on July 14. She drops 3.5kg on that run and drops back to 1100 metres which seems to be her best distance. Champion rider Craig Williams takes the mount and RILLITO appeals as a great winning chance. RACE 7 NO.13 GRUNT The P.B.Lawrence Stakes (1400m) is the starting point for many high profile horses as the progress into their spring campaign and one of those horses is last season’s Australian Guineas winner GRUNT. The four year old created a huge impression last campaign winning the C.S.Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on February 17 before a brutally tough win in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3. Trainer Mick Price took the son of O’Reilly to the Cranbourne trials on August 6 and he travelled comfortably to finish second behind HOLY SNOW over 990 metres. Whilst he won’t be at peak fitness, he is drawn for a great run and looks good enough to continue on his winning way. RACE 8 NO.3 OSBORNE BULLS OSBORNE BULLS makes his Victorian debut when he runs in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) and appears well positioned to make a winning return to the track. The five year old has built a fine record of seven wins from 10 starts to date and has been immaculately placed by trainer James Cummings. He is unbeaten in two previous fresh runs and has won four of his five starts over this distance. Whilst he is likely to be settling well back in the field, OSBORNE BULLS is a very good talent that can overpower his rivals here. Market Market
