Deane’s Caulfield Saturday Best Bets Posted on July 28, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 8 KIWIA Lightly raced stayer KIWIA has been a revelation during winter and looks a great winning chance when he contests the VOBIS Gold Stayers (2400m). The son of Reset has won three of his six starts to date and comes off a totally luckless fourth behind WINDBERN over 2000 metres at Caulfield on July 15. He has enjoyed a solid grounding for the step up to 2400 metres and elite young rider Damian Lane takes the mount. The in-form CHARLEVOIX looks the main danger and it should be a good quinella, however KIWIA will prove very hard to beat. RACE 4 NO. 11 WRITTEN ERA The Benchmark 78 Handicap (1100m) is a competitive race with several chances, however the each way value looks to be smart mare WRITTEN ERA, who is first-up from a spell. The Aaron Purcell trained mare has built a handy record of four wins and four placings from 11 starts, and finished her last campaign with two luckless runs at stakes level. Whilst this is slightly short of her best distance, the five year old will be finishing strongly and can run a bold race at each way odds. RACE 8 NO. 2 KEEN ARRAY The feature race of the Caulfield meeting is the Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) and there looks a good value play with talented sprinter KEEN ARRAY kicking off his spring campaign. The four year old hasn’t raced since finishing 8th behind TAKEDOWN in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in November last year. The son of Bel Esprit has been trialling well in recent weeks and boasts an unbeaten record over the Caulfield 1200 metres track. He appears drawn for a good run and is well placed to cause an upset in the feature race. SuperPick - RACE 8 NO. 2 KEEN ARRAY - Money Back – Run 2nd Bet Now
