RACE 1 NO. 4 GALLIC CHIEFTAIN

GALLIC CHIEFTAIN can atone for a luckless first-up run when he tackles the Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m). The Darren Weir trained stallion settled back and was forced very wide before running on strongly to finish 3^rd behind KHUTULUN over 1800 metres at Caulfield on February 10. He will relish a step up in distance and drops 5 kg on his last run. It’s a competitive race with the in-form BEDFORD aiming for three wins on end and the imported HOMESMAN making his Australian debut, however GALLIC CHIEFTAIN is good enough to record his 6^th win from 24 starts.

RACE 8 NO. 11 BONS AWAY

The Oakleigh Plate is always one of the most open races on the calendar and this year’s renewal is no exception with the likelihood of each way odds being available for the field. I’m looking for some good value and BONS AWAY fits the mould to be a great winning chance at nice odds. The four year old made remarkable improvement last preparation progressing from winning a Benchmark 64 grade at Mildura in August to beating the Group 1 performed BRAVE SMASH in the Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on September 23 last year. He has been primed for a big first-up showing with two brilliant trials in recent weeks, looks drawn to race off the pace and be charging home in the final stages. Linda Meech has built a fine rapport with the son of Bon Hoffa and they can combine for group one glory.

RACE 9 NO. 2 GAILO CHOP

Multiple group one winner GAILO GHOP commenced his Festival Of Racing campaign with a dominant win in the T.S.Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield on February 10 and looks a strong winning chance again when he runs in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m). The seven year old has now won 11 of his 23 career starts including victories at his past two runs at Caulfield. He has good tactical speed, will appreciate stepping up in distance, gets the services of elite rider Mark Zahra and can send Caulfield punters home on a winning note.
