Deane’s Caulfield Best Bets Posted on September 22, 2017September 22, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Extra SuperPicks for Caulfield – Races 1 & 2 Race 1 It’s a competitive race, however LEATHER’N’LACE is racing well and drawn for a cheap run. She’s a great winning chance but shouldn’t miss a place, so the Place Boost might be the play here. SuperPick - Race 1 No. 9 LEATHER’N’LACE - Place Boost Race 2 This looks a thin race for winning chances, so ESHTIRAAK makes plenty of appeal as a winning chance but I doubt he’ll finish outside of the first two so the bet here looks to be taking the money back for 2nd option. SuperPick - Race 2 No. 1 ESHTIRAAK - Money Back Deane Lester’s Best Bets RACE 1 NO. 9 LEATHER’N’LACE Promising filly LEATHER’N’LACE has been dominant in two wins this preparation and looks a great chance to complete the hat trick when she runs in the 3YO Fillies Plate (1400m). The Darren Weir trained filly resumed from a spell with an easy win over 1100 metres at Warrnambool on August 24 before leading all the way to win over 1300 metres at Bendigo on September 14. She drops back to her own age group and looks drawn for a good run with in-form jockey Damian Lane taking the ride. This is a very suitable race for LEATHER’N’LACE to continue on her winning way and she appeals as one of the better bets of the day. RACE 2 NO. 1 ESHTIRAAK ESHTIRAAK should be fitter for two runs this campaign and looks ready to return to winning form when he runs in the 3YO Handicap (1600m). The son of Street Cry ran an encouraging last start second behind MASCULINO over 1509 metres at Moonee Valley on September 9 in which he just peaked on his run over the final stages. The Hayes/ Dabernig trained colt was a four time winner last campaign which provides very strong credentials for this race. He is drawn to race close to the lead and, with added fitness, should prove too good for this field. RACE 6 NO. 3 BRAVE SMASH Exciting sprinter BRAVE SMASH will start the shortest priced favourite of the day at Caulfield when he contests the Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) and should justify that quote with another win. The former Japanese galloper ran a solid second behind the group one performed VEGA MAGIC in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 19 before a workman-like win in the Chandler McLeod Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 9. Whilst the margin wasn’t great last time, BRAVE SMASH always had that race in his keeping and he should be able to assert similar dominance over this field. This is his final run before next month’s $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 and he should win again on his way to that lucrative race.
