Deane Lester’s Caulfield Preview Posted on April 22, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO.6 GREY STREET GREY STREET has been enjoying a terrific campaign and looks the best bet of the day when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap (1000m). The John McArdle trained filly has been racing competitively in good class races which includes a brave second behind PETITS FILOUS over 1100 metres at Caulfield on March 26. In-form rider Ben Melham takes the mount and the daughter of Street Boss should enjoy a good run from barrier 8 with the likely speed runners having drawn outside her that should cart her across into a good position. This looks a weaker race and she only has to hold her form of recent runs and GREY STREET should prove too good for this field. RACE 5 NO.6 TELOPEA TELOPEA should be close to peak fitness following two runs back from a long spell and looks a genuine winning chance when she contests the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 84 Handicap (1440m). The Darren Weir trained mare has finished 4th at both runs this campaign and has looked to peak on her runs in both efforts. She should be fitter now and might be able to take up a prominent position in a race that appears to be devoid of genuine speed. It’s a competitive mares race however TELOPEA is ready to produce a big run. RACE 6 NO.3 BACKSTREET LOVER The JRA Handicap (1440m) looks a competitive race for three year old fillies with several chances, however BACKSTREET LOVER is an exciting filly from the Jason Warren stable that looks primed for a big first-up performance. The daughter of Street Cry won two of her three runs in her first campaign and a recent trial would suggest that she is back to that form and perhaps better. She’s another good ride for Ben Melham and she represents the value runner of the meeting. Bet Now
