Deane’s Caulfield Saturday Best Bets Posted on August 18, 2017 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 2 NO. 2 LYUBA The Legacy 2017 Badge Appeal Handicap (1100m) promises to be a cracking race with three main chances in LYUBA, OREGON’S DAY and WRITTEN ERA, however the value runner of the trio looks to be LYUBA. The Darren Weir trained mare is unbeaten in two previous first-up runs and handles all track conditions. Looking at how that race will be run, LYUBA looks to have a tactical speed advantage on her main rivals and gets the benefit of top apprentice Ben Allen’s 1.5kg claim. All three mares appear set for lucrative campaigns, however LYUBA is poised to make a winning return. RACE 4 NO. 3 AMOVATIO AMOVATIO is overdue for another win and looks a great chance to break through again when he contests the Ramleigh Handicap (1600m). The Chris Waller trained gelding comes off consecutive runner-up efforts at Flemington in recent weeks. He is a distance specialist and champion rider Damien Oliver is reunited with AMOVATIO and he has a great record aboard the seven year old. He’s a horse at peak fitness that is racing in good form and AMOVATIO looks a great chance to record his 10th career victory. RACE 5 NO. 1 CATCHY CATCHY kicks off her spring campaign when she runs in the Quezette Stakes (1100m) and looks ideally placed to return to racing as a winner. The daughter of Fastnet Rock established herself as Victoria’s best juvenile last season with four wins including the Blue Diamond Stakes and three of those wins were at Caulfield. She has trialled well in preparation for this race and just represents the class element of this field. She only needs reasonable luck in running and CATCHY should prove too good and represents the best bet of the day.
