Deane’s Caulfield Saturday Selections Posted on October 14, 2016October 17, 2016 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 1 NO. 5 SYLPHEED SYLPHEED is an exciting filly from the Waterhouse/ Bott stable that looks the one to beat again when she contests the 3YO Fillies Handicap (1400m). The daughter of Real Saga has only had four starts for two wins including her dominant victory over 1200 metres at Caulfield on October 1. She should be fitter for that outing and the extra distance of this race is in her favour. It’s a race comprising of some handy fillies but none more so than SYLPHEED who looks the best bet of the day. SuperPick - Race 1 No. 5 SYLPHEED - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 3 NO. 4 FLIPPANT The Alinghi Stakes (1100m) is always a good race for the fillies and mares with a host of chances and this year is no exception with plenty of depth, however talented Sydney mare FLIPPANT looks a safe each way gamble. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained mare had won four of her nine starts to date including two fresh wins in the past. She has trialled well in recent weeks and looks primed for a big showing in this contest. She is drawn for a good run with champion rider Hugh Bowman in the saddle so FLIPPANT represents the best value of the day. RACE 8 NO. 11 JAMEKA The feature race is the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and the best of the locally trained contingent looks to be JAMEKA, who has enjoyed a faultless preparation leading into this race. The four year old was a dominant winner of the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 17 before running a brave second behind the in-form Hartnell in the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 2. She has tactical speed to off-set an awkward draw, she has good form in this distance range and looks attractively weighted with 52.5kg. The main dangers look to be the West Australian owned mare REAL LOVE, the import ARTICUS and the honest galloper TALLY, whilst the best long shot is DE LITTLE ENGINE. Bet Now
