Deane’s Saturday Caulfield Best Bets Posted on May 11, 2018 | Posted by Deane Lester Deane Lester’s Preview RACE 4 NO. 2 LIGHT ROMANCE The best value runner at the Caulfield meeting is LIGHT ROMANCE when she contests the Rod Fenwick Handicap (1440m). The daughter of Lonhro resumed with a luckless 11th behind WILLIAM THOMAS over 1200 metres at Caulfield on April 28. She settled back in the field and raced without much galloping room over the concluding stages yet still made up ground over the final 100 metres. She will be fitter for that run, steps up in distance and drops back to fillies grade. In her last preparation, she defeated the talented TWITCHY FRANK and placed behind the stakes performer BELLA MARTINI which is very solid form for this, and represents good each way value in this race. RACE 6 NO. 3 SUN QUAN SUN QUAN is a progressive horse from the Mick Price stable that looks the testing material when he runs in the Sheen Panel Service Handicap (1200m). The three year old finished his last campaign in great form with three consecutive wins before resuming with a brave second behind the in-form WILLIAM THOMAS over 1200 metres at Caulfield on April 28. That is a strong reference for this race and he will be fitter for that run. He has a good racing style in that he makes his own luck and should prove hard to run down. RACE 8 NO. 2 FURRION Exciting prospect FURRION is striving to keep his unbeaten record intact when he takes his place in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (2000m). The three year old has been dynamic in three wins to date including a brilliant win over 1700 metres at Warrnambool on May 3. He steps up to 2000 metres for the first time but drops back to his own age group and another win would see him target next month’s Queensland Derby (2200m). He looks better than this field and represents the best bet of the day.
