Big Bash – Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars Preview Posted on January 23, 2018 | Posted by David Shortte Tonight the Sydney Sixers play host to the Melbourne Stars at the SCG. While they cannot make the finals the Sydney Sixers have gone on a late season surge winning their last three matches while the Melbourne Stars continue to be the biggest flop in BBL07 winning just 1 of their 8 matches. Sydney have looked such a better side since the injection of Nathan Lyon and West Indian Carlos Brathwaite along with Englishman Joe Denly at the top of the order who has added some strength to their batting. The Sixers bowling has also improved as the tournament has gone on with last year’s leading Big Bash wicket taker Sean Abbott finding his best form in the back half of the tournament. For the Melbourne Stars their campaign quite simply has not gotten out of first gear. The occasional cameo from Maxwell and Pietersen with the bat has not been enough to build competitive totals and their bowling has lacked penetration. Watch out for the TABtouch special right throughout the course of the Big Bash whereby if you place a Match Result bet and your team wins, and 13 or more sixes are scored in the match, you will receive a 50% bonus on your winnings up to $50 (on-line account bets only). TABtouch match result betting sees the Sydney Sixers as the warm favourites at $1.60 while the Stars are rated a $2.40 chance. Quite simply on recent form the Sixers should be specials in this match. While this is effectively a dead rubber with no prospects of finals for either side, Sydney are in form and confident while the Stars are really battling. Verdict : I really like the Sydney Sixers at $1.60.
