Ascot 6 February – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on February 5, 2016February 5, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper RACE 1 – AMELIA PARK BEEF HANDICAP 1400m No. 6 DREAMTIME DANCER – This is a competitive three-year-old race to start the day. DREAMTIME DANCER attacked the line first-up over the unsuitable trip of 1100m. The rise in distance is ideal and with 52kg on her back she has strong claims at zapping these. (5) BLACK DYNAMITE made an impressive debut in the same race. If he makes use of his good draw he goes close. (1) SPIRIT BIRD is the class filly of the race. Her last start produced a close second in the WA Guineas and she was asked for nothing in a recent trial. (7) LIGHT UP THE SKY may get a soft lead and with her lightweight she can whack away and finish in the money. Suggested Bet – Dreamtime Dancer 1 win / 2 places RACE 2 – PERTH RACING YOUNG MEMBERSHIP HANDICAP 1600m No. 8 CHAMPAGNE CHARGER – This looks a fairly thin race with most of the runners bringing in either provincial or midweek form. CHAMPAGNE CHARGER is still a maiden after seven starts however this looks an ideal assignment for her. She will sit right on the speed and with Pike steering and on the minimum she can run a big race. (7) ROSEWOOD HILL has impressed in all starts this preparation including a big win at Pinjarra. If she can use her inside draw she goes close. (6)MERRIJIG will appreciate the rise to a mile. (1) CELTIC WIZARD resumes from a spell. He was beaten a head behind Dreamtime Dancer the last time he started over this trip. Suggested Bet – Champagne Charger each-way RACE 3 – LUNAR RACEDAY NEXT SATURDAY HANDICAP 1600m No. 8 COUGAR EXPRESS – This is an intriguing race with a few form lines clashing. COUGAR EXPRESS drops sharply in distance however also drops sharply in weight after the claim for Randy Tan. From barrier 1 he should be able to get a lovely tow behind the noted speedsters Vengabus and Corporate Larrikin and from he can play a part at each-way prices. (1) VENGABUS continues to race in career best form. He is the testing material again. (2) CARRY THE NATION is always a chance at this level. (7) CORPORATE LARRIKIN is a query at the mile but with Pike on he will give a big sight on the speed. Suggested Bet – Cougar Express each-way RACE 4 – BUSH FIRE APPEAL RACEDAY FEB 20 HANDICAP 1000m No. 1 MARCHAND – This looks a lovely assignment for the speedy MARCHAND. He found plenty last start and was edged out by the smart Volkoff and Benito. The 1000m is ideal and from gate 2 he should fire straight to the front and is the one to run down. (6) KENNOCHA is a very game mare as her record suggests. She just needs to get over from her sticky gate to be a player again. (2) SECRET NOVA is the class runner of the race. The rise to 59kg is the query as she has performed better when carrying lower weights in the past. (5) CEE I AYE has been flying at Esperance and has claims. Suggested Bet – Marchand save Kennocha RACE 5 – HAPPY WAITANGI DAY HANDICAP 1800m No. 5 EXCELLENTLY – This is another very thin race. EXCELLENTLY has hit form as indicated by his last two wins at Pinjarra. This race is devoid of any speed and I expect Randy Tan to fire him straight to the front and adopt catch me if you can tactics with only 51kg on his back. (2) ALREADY FAMOUS was very good first-up in what was a strong form race. Pike retains the mount and the increased distance is ideal. (4) COUGAR NIGHTS finds it hard to win however he has been knocking on the door all preparation. (9) RAM JAM returned to form at Mt Barker and has claims with his lightweight. Suggested Bet –Excellently save Already Famous RACE 6 – FUNCTIONS AT ASCOT HANDICAP 1100m No. 13 REGAL COMMANDER – This is clearly the race of the day. REGAL COMMANDER came of ages last preparation under the tuition of Adam Durrant. He produced two wins and two seconds (defeats were to smart horses) from his four starts. He’ll sit about midfield and should be exploding late. (1) BENITO will lead and give big sight again. (6) WOOLIBAR is nice sprinter who resumes. (9) VOLKOFF is flying and can make it four straight. Suggested Bet –Regal Commander and Benito RACE 7 – STONE MOTHERLESS AFTER THE LAST HANDICAP 2100m No. 14 PARIS DREAM – Big field however there appear to be many in the race who have reached their mark. PARIS DREAM goes from a mile to 2100m but she is on the up and racing like she should appreciate the trip. From her good draw she gets the run of the race and can break back into the winner’s circle. (1) KEYSBROOK has a horrible strike rate however she has been racing in better class of events than this. (13) JUIICING CARROTS can do things wrong but he is racing like the trip will be ideal. (4) MAGIC ROCKET will improve with the rise in distance. Suggested Bet – Paris Dream win RACE 8 – AMELIA PARK HANDICAP 1400m No. 11 POUNAMU – Keen on the chances of POUNAMU in this final race of the day. He was very impressive in his local debut when he stormed home the final furlong and shot down the talented Young John on the post. He drops 3.5kg on that run and has drawn ideally. (9) SOCIALLY UNIQUE looks the danger. He drops in distance however the blinkers go on and he has drawn well. (15) DRIVE ON ICE is an emerging type. (2) EUROSUN is a notorious non-winner but is always around the mark. Suggested Bet – Keen on Pounamu save Socially Unique QUADDIE RACE 5 – 2, 4, 5 RACE 6 – 1, 5, 6, 9, 13 RACE 7 – 1, 4, 13, 14 RACE 8 – 9, 11 Bet Now!
