Greg’s Winterbottom Stakes Day Preview Posted on November 25, 2016November 26, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Day 2 of the TABTOUCH MASTERS highlighted by the running of the GROUP 1 CROWN PERTH WINTERBOTTOM STAKES. This looks a competitive start to the day. DELANEY impressed on debut when he worked on the speed and was able to find a gear late. From gate 2 expect him to be fired straight to the front and be hard to catch. Plenty of respect for the highly talented filly DAINTY TESS who resumes from a freshen-up. Her form in the winter is all around the smart filly Sweet Ora. D Oliver goes on as well. VEUVE DE VEGA will get off the speed and relish a hot speed. FAIRIE WHISPER gave plenty last start and has place claims again. Numbers – 9 – 1 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – DELANEY WIN SuperPick - Race 1 No. 9 DELANEY - Money Back – Run 2nd RACE 2 This looks a very tricky race which on paper is devoid of natural speed. For that reason going to speculate and select ABASSO who I suspect may be ridden more positively and potentially lead. His run in the York Cup was solid after meeting some traffic problems early in the straight. SETTLERS CREEK battled on well in a similar line-up last start after he faced the breeze. He’s a better horse when he gets cover so the effort was full of merit. DJANGO won the York Cup well and then was no hope in a farcically run Ascot Gold Cup. POUNAMU can win again. Numbers – 6 – 8 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – ABASSO AND SETTLERS CREEK RACE 3 A couple of the roughies CONFUCIOUS and EXCELLENTLY are expected to take up the running and hopefully on their backs will be MACAVITY. He won his maiden at York in a soft manner and then had no luck at Northam when he tramped wide throughout. This looks a very weak Saturday race and he drops to 54kg with Tim Clark riding. MAJOR DETAIL is one at odds who can run a race. He didn’t get warm first-up over 1216m at Bunbury. The rise to 1500m is ideal and Corey Brown takes the mount. JASPARA is in career best form. ASTRONOMITE has burnt the punters all campaign, Pike back on is a plus. Numbers – 10 – 11 – 4 -2 Suggested Bet – MACAVITY AND MAJOR DETAIL RACE 4 This looks a perfect race for LENIENCE. He’s been knocking on the door all campaign and it took the very smart STATE SOLICITOR to run him down late last start. From gate 3 Brad Parnham can lead or box seat and if he produces his best he should have these covered. BARAKI BEATS can run a race fresh. GIGANTE is racing well and showed last start he can carry this weight and be very competitive. MALIBU STYLE was caught wide first-up. He can improve sharply. Numbers – 3 – 7 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – LENIENCE WIN RACE 5 Very tricky two-year-old race with a couple of the main chances drawing wide. SOUNDCHECK didn’t get any luck on debut. He missed the kick, got back on the fence and never saw daylight. D Oliver goes on and if he can work some magic from a sticky draw he’ll get his chance. KEEPER KEN showed a terrific turn of foot on debut. He’s another who’s drawn wide but with any luck in running will figure in the finish. RIASC looks the pick of the debutantes. RUBIA MISS should show plenty of early zip. Numbers – 3 – 1 – 4 – 10 Suggested Bet – SOUNDCHECK AND KEEPER KEN RACE 6 This looks a very competitive running of the Tattersall’s Cup. The speed will be strong early with a couple of noted speed horses engaged and at some point Brad Parnham will likely take off on KIROV BOY and make it a real staying test. I suspect this will suit KIA ORA KOUTOU. His run in the Ascot Gold Cup was strong and the rise to 2100m should be ideal. DARK ALERT is another who looks just about ready. W Pike goes on for the first time this campaign. ZARANTZ will appreciate the class drop and distance rise. KIROV BOY can give a big sight on the speed. Numbers – 11 – 10 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – KIA ORA KOUTOU AND DARK ALERT RACE 7 A capacity line-up will meet the starter for the inaugural running of the $100,000 TABTOUCH REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. LUKE’S GOLD is three from four with his only defeat occurring after he hung badly in running and threw away all chance at winning. Damien Oliver takes over and expecting him to settle handy to the speed and give a big sight. BATTLE TORQUE has a horror draw to contend with but he gets the services of W Pike. If he can land a spot three wide with cover he can win. BORDER SCOTT should get a lovely drag behind the speed. GRANLARADO put in an eye-catching display at Bunbury. Numbers – 8 – 13 – 1 -4 Suggested Bet – LUKE’S GOLD WIN RACE 8 This looks a terrific line-up for this year’s $1,000,000 GROUP 1 CROWN PERTH WINTERBOTTOM STAKES. Speed will be strong with VEGA MAGIC trying to hold up from gate 2, SHEIDEL outside him and the mare MILITARY REIGN having to burn over from her wide alley. KEEN ARRAY, TERRAVISTA and TAKEDOWN are likely to be just behind the first trio. TERRAVISTA attacks this race nice at only his second run this campaign. He’s not won for close to 15 months however he’s competed very competitively in the country’s best sprints. He gets the lovely run from a good draw and should be able to utilise his paralysing turn of speed. VEGA MAGIC can give a big sight in front for young apprentice Jake Casey. MALAGUERRA has the Group 1 form and has the draw to get the soft run. All reports are he has settled in really well. FIRST AMONG EQUALS a blowout hope for the locals. Numbers – 1 – 8 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – TERRAVISTA AND VEGA MAGIC RACE 9 Wide open finish to the program. BIG RED COSTA delivered what he had been promising for a while at his most recent start with a fairly dominant on speed win. This doesn’t look much harder. MAGIC ROCKET is in career best form. He’ll be getting back in the field but if there is some speed on he’s the one to hold out. O’REILLY’S CRUMPET has burnt the punters all campaign. Pike goes on and he does have claims. BEG TO DIFFER drops 5kg on his last start. Numbers – 2 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – BIG RED COSTA AND MAGIC ROCKET Bet Now
