Greg’s Ascot Preview Posted on November 11, 2016November 13, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 Keen on the well bred gelding SOUNDCHECK in this two-year-old race. He looked really sharp in his recent trial win when the blinkers went on. Harvey rides and expect him to stalk the speed and be very hard to hold out. MY DEMI ran well on debut. With race experience under his belt he can improve and be the main danger. Hard to line-up all the other debutantes but KEEPER KEN and COLOURFUL CHARADE both trialled well. Numbers – 7 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – SOUNDCHECK WIN RACE 2 Hard race to assess as it is completely devoid of natural speed. OUTLAW PETE ran well first-up. Suspect he can stalk the speed and utilise his turn of foot. UNIVERSAL LAW looks very close to a win. He’ll likely drop back and have to sustain a long run but he’s capable of doing that and winning. There looks little between both STAR EXHIBIT and POUNAMU. Numbers – 3 – 4 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – OUTLAW PETE AND UNIVERSAL LAW RACE 3 STATE SOLICITOR is a highly promising galloper. He’s a class above these and wins again. The stable mate KING RIVER can run second. He’ll get an economical run on the fence and be strong late. LET IT SLIP and LENIENCE can figure in the first-four. Numbers – 3 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – STATE SOLICITOR WIN RACE 4 ASTRONOMITE is on the quick back-up after working to the line strongly over 1200m. He’s been crying out for the increase to 1400m. YOSHI NOXIOUS ran well first-up. He drops weight on that run and the rise in trip should suit. BIG CAROLINE won well at Bunbury. The 1400m is the query. OUR MATE AL broke a frustrating run of outs with an impressive win at his most recent start. Numbers – 2 – 8 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – ASTRONOMITE WIN RACE 5 Start of the quaddie and the start of four quality feature races. The first is the time honoured W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes. There does appear to be a distinct lack of speed with CAIPIRINHA likely to lead and control and the favourite ELLICAZOOM either breezing or racing just behind the expected sluggish tempo. Either way Steven Parnham should ensure she gets the favours and with her explosive turn of foot she looks the one to beat. SAMOVARE chased hard in the Burgess Queen. Brad Parnham teams up with her and he’ll be doing his best to get one over his brother. Both I AM BOUDICA and ROYAL MISSILE were never a chance in the Burgess Queen after settling a long way back in running. They both should both enjoy the rise to 1600m. Numbers – 4 – 7 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – ELLICAZOOM AND SAMOVARE RACE 6 This is the last chance for many of these to gain a start in next week’s Railway Stakes. Speed will be solid with GREAT SHOT or VENGABUS taking it up. SCALES OF JUSTICE will also roll forward and if he can settle nicely he gets his chance at a feature win. This is a rise in class from his last start win however he does get some weight relief and should be able to get a nice run on the speed. SHOWY CHLOE was terrific in the Asian Beau Stakes where she parked wide and only peaked late. She meets some of her rivals on superior weight terms and should get a much softer run from a good draw. HEART STARTER is quality. He’s secured entry into the Railway with a win in the Asian Beau. The weight impost is the query however offsetting that to a degree is the fact he gets all the favours from barrier 2. IDEAL IMAGE gives her all every time she fronts up. Numbers – 10 – 11 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – SCALES OF JUSTICE AND SHOWY CHLOE RACE 7 The Colonel Reeves is the race of the day for mine. It has assembled a crack field of sprinters. 10 of the 12 competed in the Prince Of Wales which ROCK MAGIC took out after parking wide. It was a farcically run sprint with many hard luck stories. Expecting this race to be run at a much more genuine clip which should ensure most of the runners get their chance. Jake Casey elected to sit on VEGA MAGIC first-up however once the anchor went down in front of him he was in the wrong spot and then almost getting put through the running rail didn’t help his chances. From there it just got worse. Expecting they’ll ride him differently and either try and cross MILITARY REIGN or breeze outside her. Either scenario will suit and think he gets his chance at feature race success. MILITARY REIGN is quality sprinting mare. She flies fresh and can give this a big nudge from the front. FIRST AMONG EQUALS was another who never saw daylight in the Prince Of Wales. P Harvey jumps back on and a more genuine tempo will suit his chance. ROCK MAGIC always fronts up and competes well at this level. Numbers – 6 – 5 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – VEGA MAGIC WIN SuperPick - Race 7 No. 6 VEGA MAGIC - Profit Plus – 50% (Win) RACE 8 CHOCOLATE HOLIC continues to improve and he produced a career best effort in the Northam Cup when he came from last and powered clear late to produce an emphatic win. The normal racing luck he wins again. DARK ALERT was terrific in the same race when he resumed from a spell and, sat wide and battled on strongly. He gets a much more economical run from a better draw. YOUNG LIONEL will get back and be making ground. KIA ORA KOUTOU can work into the first-four. Numbers – 3 – 8 – 4 – 11 Suggested Bet – CHOCOLATE HOLIC WIN Bet Now
