Greg’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on March 31, 2017March 31, 2017 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Preview RACE 1 A KNIGHT OF PRO was enormous in defeat at Bunbury. He was wide, pressed forward and looked home before being nailed on the post by a subsequent midweek city winner. The only query is the drop in trip. VICTORIOUS LAD appears the danger. He should lead and is the one to run down. SUNSET PETE was good at Mt Barker, getting off the speed and having to circle the field. If he can jump well and make use of gate 1 he looks the other winning chance. KIM’S CALL has trialled well for her return. Numbers – 3 – 2 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – A KNIGHT OF PRO WIN SuperPick - Race 1 No. 3 A KNIGHT OF PRO - Profit Plus – 25% (Win) RACE 2 Wide open race with many of these natural leading types which makes the jostling for early positions critical. SWIFT PLATINUM is probably better suited over 1200m where he can lead and dictate terms however showed some dash in a recent trial win and if he can hold up from gate 1 he gives this a shake. SCALPEL impressed when leading all the way at Bunbury on debut. If can cross to the breeze without doing too much work he gives this a shake. DAINTY TESS is a quality filly. SNOW LORD next best. Numbers – 2 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SWIFT PLATINUM WIN RACE 3 ROYAL SUPREME has his hoof firmly planted on the till and this looks his race. TRAP FOR FOOLS backs up from the Melvista where he was a little disappointing. He can lead and give this a big shake. PROXY looks close to producing his best. WAR KSAR next best. Numbers – 2 – 11 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – ROYAL SUPREME WIN RACE 4 ROSMARTINI drops sharply in trip after struggling over the 2000m of the AHA Cup. She should be rock hard fit and first-up over this distance range she was nosed out by SETTLERS CREEK. RIPPER RIO found traffic problems when resuming from a spell. He’s had a four week break since then and Pike goes on. PUSHIN’ SHAPES is in form and gets a soft run from a good draw. WRINKLY should lead. Numbers – 3 – 6 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROSMARTINI AND RIPPER RIO RACE 5 If GREAT SHOT is ever going to turn the tables on MAN BOOKER is has to be this race. He softened up in the Pinjarra Classic and then at Bunbury he was unable to lead after Coming Back surprisingly took it up. On paper he finds the front very easily and from there Craig Staples can completely dictate the tempo which gives him a chance. MAN BOOKER potentially may need to do some of the bullocking work from the breeze however he’s clearly the one they need to beat. RED ORA and YOUNG LIONEL place hopes. Suggested – 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – GREAT SHOT WIN RACE 6 SWEET ORA has a clear class edge on this field and she should be too slick for these. Her trial was good and suspect will have her midfield and ready to explode. MARCHAND can lead and is the one to catch. BRACKETS box seats from gate 1. WOOLIBAR looks a first four chance. Numbers – 7 – 2 – 10- 8 Suggested Bet – SWEET ORA SAVE MARCHAND RACE 7 The main interest in this year’s WA Oaks seems to be whether Bob Peters and Team Williams can nail the trifecta or even the quartet. ROYAL STAR picks herself off such a dominant win in the Natasha. Only bad luck beats her. VERY TEMPTING looks the clear second pick. She’s screaming out for the 2400m. PERFECT ROSE will stay the trip. JUST LIKE FIRE is very honest. Numbers – 1 – 5 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – ROYAL STAR WIN RACE 8 All the speed appears to be drawn wide with WACKED OUT likely to lead, LUCY MAE outside him then ACHERNAR STAR, DEBELLATIO and ARRUM BOY camped behind them. I’ve settled on DEBELLATIO. His effort in defeat in the Perth Stakes was full of merit as he was wide and working throughout. He’s finally drawn a marble in which he should be able to camp and get some cover. It could be the advantage he needs to find a couple of lengths. SEANNIE is the best horse in the race. Her racing pattern though isn’t that conducive the hustle and bustle of 2YO events however she is very good. Aaron Mitchell has been putting on a clinic this week and if he can get her out of the machine and utilise the inside draw she probably just wins. ACHERNAR STAR is another quality type from the Simon Miller yard. Suspect if he’s ridden aggressively he can find some cover on the speed. RIASC gets a soft from gate 2 and the blinkers go on. Numbers – 6 – 12 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – DEBELLATIO AND SEANNIE RACE 9 Wide open finish to the program. JUENDIS looks ready to win after tracking wide throughout at his most recent outing. From a mid draw he can park just behind the speed and be in a position to strike. STORM DANCER is flying the query is the inside draw and the drop in trip. ELEGANT BLAST was solid first-up at Bunbury in a feature three-year-old race. MAIN INSTIGATOR has claims. Numbers 5 – 8 – 14 – 6 Suggested Bet – JUENDIS WIN Bet Now
