Ascot 13 February – Thoroughbreds Preview Posted on February 12, 2016February 12, 2016 | Posted by Greg Hooper Greg Hooper’s Tips RACE 1 – PERAK TURF CLUB TROPHY 1200m No. 1 WRINKLY – This is a very thin race to start the day. The price difference between WRINKLY and KIMBO’S GIRL appears too long and for that reason I’m going for the former. He finished off well on debut suggesting the 1200m will suit. (6) KIMBO’S GIRL looks clearly the one to beat. She leads and takes a heap of catching. (5) RYANMAR was fair in a recent trial. (7) NICE GO wasn’t asked for a great deal in her trial. Suggested Bet – Wrinkly 1 win / 5 places RACE 2 – NESSCO HANDICAP 2400m No. 2 DARK ALERT – Hard to select against the progressive stayer DARK ALERT. He has really found his niche as a stayer this campaign and looks a terrific chance to make it four straight wins. (3) COUGAR EXPRESS has been in top form and finished a narrow second to Dark Alert a fortnight back. Harvey goes back on and he can turn the tables. (6) KEYSBROOK broke a long drought last start and can go on with the job with her lightweight. (4) SAXY GRACE is nearing peak fitness and gets down to a weight which gives her a winning chance. Suggested Bet – Dark Alert and Cougar Express RACE 3 – PENANG TURF CLUB TROPHY 1200m No. 2 SHE RULES ALL – I’m quite keen on the chances of the tough mare SHE RULE ALL. She came off a six week break to win in midweek grade and she drops 4kg on that run. She should be able to find the lead or breeze and from there will take some catching. (3) DISCORD WITCH has found form and gets all the favours from barrier 1. (1) DISTANT MEMORY won well in a strong race at Bunbury. (6) CLASSY CAT will settle off the speed and attack the line. Suggested Bet – She Rules All 1 win / 2 places RACE 4 – THE ASSOCIATION OF GREAT CHINA INC HANDICAP 1600m No. 4 CRUMPET O’REILLY – This is a very weak race and it appears the ideal assignment for O’REILLY’S CRUMPET. He should get the perfect run from his good draw and take a stack of beating. (3) SLICK TALKER is the clear danger. His last two efforts have been eye-catchers. The bar plates going on is the query. (1) TOM ALMIGHTY was close-up last start and has claims. (2) DISCOVILLE should be nearing his peak at his third run back from a spell. Suggested Bet – O’Reilly’s Crumpet save Slick Talker RACE 5 – SINGAPORE TURF CLUB TROPHY 1200m No. 2 FAMOUS SOMEDAY – This is another race that appears to have limited chances. FAMOUS SOMEDAY was a big first-up winner but then struggled at his next start. He should appreciate being ridden with some cover and can improve sharply on that last start effort. (8) FERMENTATION was a very impressive debut winner. She will go very close again. (1) ALL SETTLED can win if he gets over from his wide draw. (12) DÉTENTE will be finishing strongly. Suggested Bet – Famous Someday and Fermentation RACE 6 – MineARC SYSTEMS HANDICAP 1100m No. 2 PUSHIN’ SHAPES – This is a terrific race with plenty of chances. PUSHIN’ SHAPES was solid last campaign without really showing his best. His recent trial looked strong and hopefully he can recapture his outstanding two-year-old form. (4) JUST ACT NATURAL led and smashed his rivals last start. If he finds the front he can win again. (6) PATRIMONIO will finish strongly. (8) HIGH TEA is a nice filly who resumes from a spell. Suggested Bet – Pushin’ Shapes each-way RACE 7 – SELANGOR TURF CLUB TROPHY 1000m No. 4 GIGANTE – This race should pan out very nicely for the big sprinter GIGANTE. He drops 3.5kg on his last start second and will get a lovely run behind what should be a very strong tempo. He gets his chance to break through. (4) CLASSICAL PRINCE has returned in top form and can make it back-to-back wins. (9) BOURNE SUPREMACY is a talented sprinter who resumes with the benefit of a soft trial. (6) SECRET NOVA is a consistent mare who is always a chance at this level. Suggested Bet – Gigante each-way RACE 8 – AUSTRALIAN CHINESE TIMES TROPHY 1500m No. 4 NORTH RIDGE – Like the chances of the talented four-year-old NORTH RIDGE. He was run off his legs first-up but was doing his best work late producing the fastest last 600m of the race. The rise to 1500m will suit and he should settle much closer in running. (12) TERROR FORCE was huge in defeat at his most recent start when he was shuffled back to last and thundered late when it was all over. Expect a much more positive ride from gate 1 with Pike on. (6) OUTLAW PETE is another who will enjoy the rise in distance. (1) BARAKI BEATS will lead and give them something to run down. Suggested Bet – North Ridge each-way RACE 9 – $100,000 LISTED CYRIL FLOWER STAKES 1200m No. 2 RED ORA – Gun sprinter RED ORA put on a clinic first-up when he led them up in the Scenic Blast and never looked like getting run down. He does rise 4.5kg in weight and will be unlikely be able to find the front again but he still looks the one to beat. (5) FIRST AMONG EQUALS can turn the tables if backmarkers are playing a part by the end of the day. (4) DREAM LIFTER will lead and give them something catch. (3) COOL TRADE can run a race fresh. Suggested Bet – Red Ora win RACE 10 – AMELIA PARK HANDICAP 1200m No. 7 RED PADDY – There appears to be strong speed in this final race of the day and it should set it up nicely for RED PADDY. From his good draw he should be able to settle about midfield and make his move approaching the straight. (8) RIPPER RED is the best horse in the race however he is very dimensional in that he will likely settle last and launch late. If swoopers are going well he has big claims. (10) STAR GLITTER looks very close to another win. (4) IT’S IT is much more suited over this trip and Pike goes on. QUADDIE RACE 7 – 4, 6, 7, 9, 10 RACE 8 – 1, 2, 4, 6, 12 RACE 9 – 2, 5 RACE 10 – 4, 7, 8, 10 Bet Now!
