Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview

Race 1

BOURBONONTHEROCKS and SAINTS N SINNERS are through the same form reference race and clearly the strongest form reference race with Firearm coming out of that event to score impressively at his next outing. Confident one of the two win this race and considering one goes forward and one goes back, you’re more or less putting your eggs in the basket of how you think the track may play. Hot day, race 1, rail out 10m, going to side up with the on-speeder rather than the off-speeder in BOURBONONTHEROCKS narrowly ahead of SAINTS N SINNERS who savaged the line and ran the fastest L200 of that race. SHENTON ROAD really caught the eye at trials. HAMADRYAD might roll to the top and look to reproduce the run of two back.

Numbers: 9 – 10 – 11 – 7

Suggested Bet – BOURBONONTHEROCKS WIN

Race 2

LUNA WILL DO was heavily supported to beat Dawn Dancer over 1000m on a Saturday at her return to racing. She tried hard, he was simply too brilliant for her over the short course and now second-up she gets out to 1200m, drops back into midweek grade and maps to get every possible. Considering she was only off a 400m jump out, she should only improve into the campaign as well. Looks a nice race for her. FIREARM was luckless at his return to racing and then highly impressive when storming home to victory second-up. Still improving with racing. ANDALADY wants to go quick. May not have been overly convincing on debut but think she’s the kind of filly who will go better the faster they go with her. OFFICIAL BUSINESS beat Firearm two back and beat Maybe Maybe Maybe last start.

Numbers: 8 – 1 – 6 – 3

Suggested Bet – LUNA WILL DO WIN

Race 3

QUEEN DIVA is a 3 year old filly who makes her debut in a C1. Unorthodox placement but she gets in on the 55kg minimum and on paper (and likely in the market) her two main dangers are both also maiden gallopers in Levati Dimezzo and Hansadios. Loved her recent barrier trial where she powered away from them late and looks to be well above average. Expect she’s the one that the support will come for throughout betting. LEVATI DIMEZZO has the experience on his side and comes through the same barrier trial as her. He’s 2x Saturday placed to talented types He’s A Machino and Achy Breaky. It’s great form for a midweeker. HANSADIOS beat Mystic Smile and Morning Thunder in her barrier trial win and the stable can do no wrong at the minute. EXCELINDEED was allowed to roll in his trial and looked comfortable ridden in that manner.

Numbers: 11 – 4 – 10 – 2

Suggested Bet – QUEEN DIVA WIN

Race 4

EMPIRE OF ROME went around in a 1000m 3yo midweeker on debut under 60kg and wasn’t disgraced beaten under 2.5L. Burst through second-up at 1300m for a solid victory and now progresses to a C3. Given his SP he’s likely to go around at a decent price again here and might just be an under-rated horse getting under the guard in what looks a really open and even contest. Worth consideration at a price. RUN PATTIE RUN was good behind Lash Out two back and then had no luck last start when held up in a race where the leaders dominated. PERFUME PRINCESS was super impressive at Belmont but that was 1400m and was also 5 weeks ago? CALL ME INVINCIBLE finally got one on the board at Kalgoorlie.

Numbers: 7 – 6 – 11 – 4

Suggested Bet – EMPIRE OF ROME EACHWAY

Race 5 (Best Bet)

MR MELLON looks really well placed and really hard to beat. He demolished rivals on debut in a 1200m maiden when leading and winning before going to a 3 year old 1400 at his second career outing and holding his own behind Roger, Swift Ruler and Rogue Ruler, beating home sharp filly Treasured Legacy in the process. Carries the same weight in a C3 as he did last start in a 3 year old Saturday and reunites with regular rider Paul Harvey. SWIFT TALKER was really good first-up and then really poor second-up. In the end it’s worth noting that both Swift Ruler and Bosun the two market elects in that $100,000 feature settled a long way off them and neither were able to make any impression late. CHINO BAY has trialled nicely for a staying type of mare resuming at 1400m. In for a good prep. JAVELIN STRIKE put it all together last start.

Numbers: 8 – 1 – 5 – 2

Suggested Bet – MR MELLON WIN

Race 6

ADMIRE ASTRA ran third to Wonderfully Made in an Ascot 1000 Guineas, second to Masmelo in a Natasha Stakes and then third to Wonderfully Made in a WA Oaks. She was never going to be overly competitive in 1000m Belmont trials and in the most recent she got understandably caught flat footed but held her own late. Nice starting point for her. GRANDAD’S ADICITON didn’t go a yard on the dirt. The start prior he won in this grade at Belmont Park over 1650m and had been a model of consistency. Forget he even went to Moora. Can bounce back here. PLAYING SOLO didn’t get the best of runs last start and drops down to the 54kg limit here taking on the older horses. ACTA NON VERBA has improved at his last two.

Numbers: 1 – 9 – 14 – 4

Suggested Bet – ADMIRE ASTRA WIN

Race 7

SWEET ISSY got the better of a very handy filly last start in Royal Reflection. She’s a last start C1 1695m winner in a C1 1600 and if she can get an ounce of luck early from a slightly sticky draw then she’ll hopefully enjoy a similar run midfield with cover. Ticking along well. DYNASTIC LASS had a set of blinkers reattached last start at Bunbury and was ridden for pure speed. There were 3x 1400m races that day – Moose (1:25:78), Treasured Legacy (1:26:24) and Dynastic Lass (1:25:28), she was strong at the end of 1400m and gave the impression that she would get 1600. FORGOT THE ROCK would have been a good thing beat if he didn’t get through last start. Overall time nearly 10L slower than maiden average the query. GINGER AND TONIC is always thereabouts.

Numbers: 2 – 9 – 3 – 11

Suggested Bet – SWEET ISSY WIN
