Michael Heaton’s Sunday Broome Preview

RACE 1

DUST ASIDE looked hard to beat at his dirt debut first up but he unfortunately slipped out of the barriers and was never in the hunt after that. His grass form is superior to his rivals and he’s drawn much more favourably here so with a clean getaway he looks capable of bouncing back. OLE GRANDE was good last start when covering ground and sticking on for third and he should be able to sit in the first 2 this time around. HARD TO TOP is a long-time maiden and this looks an awkward setup drawn wide in a race with good speed underneath her but she’s knocking on the door for an overdue win. BONDI QUEEN hasn’t been far away and will appreciate the extra 100m.

Numbers: 4-3-7-12

Suggested Bet – DUST ASIDE WIN

RACE 2

FINADO was a dominant first up winner over 1000m then looked stretched at 1200m last start so the 100m drop in distance here looks the right move. He has the tactical speed to work forward and either lead or breeze and can ride the speed for a long way. BEYOND THE WALL is 2 from 2 this preparation, including a smart win at this track/grade/distance last start. He’s going super but is now drawn the outside with 61kg which is a leveller. SOLAR SYSTEM always needs luck with his racing pattern but he’s run second at all 3 starts this time in and is smashing the door down for a deserved win. MAKE YOUR POINT gets a 3kg swing on Beyond The Wall from last start where he started half the price of him and he should be ready to produce his best third up.

Numbers: 5-2-8-3

Suggested Bet – FINADO WIN

RACE 3

KINGS SICARIO always needs luck with his negative racing pattern but if he’s able to settle a bit closer from his inside draw he should be a big chance here. He savaged the line from a long way back when reeling off all the fastest closing sectionals last start, gets a 1.5kg swing on Do It Right and looks primed to produce his best third-up over 1780m. DO IT RIGHT was a great training effort by the flying Jody McLaughlin (30% winning strike rate the first 3 meetings) when winning first up, no trial at 1600m. He gets a suitable setup and there’s no reason he can’t win again. WOLFMAN has been very good at his first 2 starts on the dirt and the rise in trip doesn’t look like it’ll be an issue. FORTUNE’S LUCK nearly pinched it at $101 last start and should be on-speed for a long way again.

Numbers: 4-7-8-9

Suggested Bet – KINGS SICARIO EACH-WAY

RACE 4

IMA WILD GIRL is a great bread-and-butter horse for this level and she has a positive racing pattern which always gives her a chance. She stuck on well for second last start, meets rivals better at the weights for beating them home and she should lead again. ZORBRIST was enormous when flying home from a long way back at his dirt debut then had a tough run from his outside draw last start. He now steps to a mile for the first time but importantly maps much more favourably from a far better draw. STREET MASCHINO drops 6kg from his last start, should be just about ready to produce his best at his third run back and he’s a model of consistency once he hits form. LUCKY LANDING was solid first up and gets the run of the race for the region’s in-form combination.

Numbers: 10-5-12-4

Suggested Bet – IMA WILD GIRL EACH-WAY

RACE 5

SCHUHBECK clearly doesn’t win out of turn but he’s given a lot of cheek at his first 2 runs back and he should land in a great position in running here in a race where some of his main dangers with likely get back. Going well and this is winnable. LEAVING LAS VEGAS loses Austin Galati and likely settles last again with a 3kg apprentice aboard which makes him a risky proposition but he was a huge win first up at this track/grade/distance. SEMPRE savaged the line at his first 2 starts of his preparation then broke his maiden status with an impressive win last time out. His inside draw isn’t ideal considering his negative racing pattern but he looks like he’ll eat up the extra 135m. THE TOP BAR was dynamite ridden with a sit last start as opposed to his previous on-speed pattern.

Numbers: 10-1-3-2

Suggested Bet – SCHUHBECK EACH-WAY

RACE 6

HOUSEWIFE rises in grade from a 58+ to a 70+ but she was an emphatic winner at this track/distance last start and now drops 3.5kg to 52kg. If she jumps cleanly again she should land in a striking position and will be hard to hold out with the flyweight. KINGS CALL is another who steps up in class but he’s 2 from 2 this preparation, drops 3kg and looks the likely leader and one to beat. BORDER FORCE was a massive run when storming home with 61.5kg in a fast-run race last start and he now drops 4kg at his third run back. MUSGRAVE is well placed in this company and is a watch at his dirt debut.

Numbers: 12-8-6-10

Suggested Bet – HOUSEWIFE EACH-WAY

RACE 7

GREAT EDITION drops back in distance second up from a freshen which might not be ideal but he was a strong winner at his dirt debut. He led and won what was by far the fastest of the 4 1435m events so far this season, drops 1kg staying in the same grade after young gun Jason Li’s claim and he looks the likely leader again. Hard to beat. CLOSE TALKER won second up at this track/grade/distance, now gets leading rider Kyra Yuill aboard and she could track Great Edition’s in running. ROMMEL’S GODDESS maps awkwardly but she ran the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting first up and will appreciate the step to 1200m. LOST GRAVITY is a former Saturday metro 66+ winner and is capable of improving sharply second up and dropping in grade.

Numbers: 8-7-6-2

Suggested Bet – GREAT EDITION WIN
