Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on February 3, 2026February 3, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MOONWALK ran second on debut splitting Too Darn Stormy and Playin’ It Sweet as a 2 year old from the breeze. At her first-up run last campaign she zapped them over 1000m before heading to a 3 year old 1400, a Burgess Queen Stakes when less than 3L off Playin’it Sweet, Talkanco and Pure Excess before finishing her campaign in the WA Champion Fillies. Resumes fresh without a trial and while Pike not riding is a surprise it does look a nice race for the filly and she doesn’t necessarily have to go back? SO SI GOD has trialled really well this time around. The first trial contained both Hubble’s Dragon and Basset Hound and in the second trial she was bursting through traffic late. MISS FINKMEYER was caught wide for the majority last time out and kept coming behind Pingers and Rolling Ruler in a C3 that should hold up as a form reference. CHAMA didn’t trial in blinkers and had a junior rider on. Numbers: 7 – 9 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – MOONWALK WIN RACE 2 BACK TO BONDI made a really encouraging debut at 1400m behind Morf when he kept coming to the line. Looks like a horse who will get ground and stay all day and in a capacity line-up of mile maidens he looks a horse who can use his barrier to advantage and stay out of trouble towards the front of the field. There’s not much between these and there will be plenty of horses held up, even with a cutaway in play. VAMPI QUEEN was given every mortal chance by Lucy Fiore last start and was beaten on her merits by Barney Rommel but she’ll likely land three deep cover and be swooping into it late. YOU CAN CALL ME AL drew barrier 1 and ended up three back fence at Scarpside. Horses simply don’t win from there on Scarpside. THE ROCKET was really stiff not to win last start but will need a peach from ZJP. Numbers: 10 – 13 – 1 – 8 Suggested Bet – BACK TO BONDI EACHWAY RACE 3 WHO’S BENT was held up first-up in a 60+ Graduation and finished alongside horses like Niccimota, Run Pattie Run, Anaballistic, Justabittapress and Lost Gravity, they’re all far better types than he meets here in a C1 where 6 of the 10 runners are maiden gallopers. It’s a big ride for Giaan O’Donnell and her 3kg claim and in theory the cutaway should help – patient and then pick a run when the field fans on straightening. PARIAH’S THANKS bolted in last start at Bunbury and can either sit leader’s back or three back the fence and shoot up the cutaway. CANNYKEV just looks a 1000m horse. He didn’t seem to run out 1200 behind Rapid Rock and The Nun (now 3 year old Plate placed) and then was solid last start in a Westspeed. Just needs to get across from a tricky alley. ESPRESSO TIME is a maiden but looks to have some ability. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – WHO’S BENT WIN RACE 4 TORA BORA worked home quite well last week and has the cutaway to work with. You’ll know by Race 4 whether it’s on or off but if its playing evenly then this does look a suitable race for her to go well on the 7-day spin and it looks a race which should be nearly eachway the field. Many winning chances. BARNEY ROMMEL has put together two really good runs. The second behind Hubble’s Dragon now looks even better and then he got the job done in his own right beating Vampi Queen who goes around in Race 2. Has to rise 2.5kg from a maiden to a C1 and gets back, but is savaging the line. JACKPOT BINGO gobbled them up at Pinjarra on the Scarpside and now gets Pike, however, rises a whopping 5kg start to start and Barney Rommel beat him home quite comfortably at their last meeting. SPACE ACADEMY made a really encouraging WA debut. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – TORA BORA EACHWAY RACE 5 AZABELLE and OISIN went toe to toe at Bunbury from the top of the home straight and OISIN came out victorious by half a length. There’s a 2kg weight swing in favour of AZABELLE for that encounter and they look likely to land in similar positions again right over the speed (with the company of Mistress Of War). They’ll be looking to control the race between themselves and hopefully that trio can sort out settling positions early and not attack each other. ELEGANT INDI is the backmarker who will flop out the back and hope that they overcook it in front. She’s returned in outstanding order and her run behind Great Fortune in a 60+ Graduation suggests she’ll be winning many more races this campaign. MISTRESS OF WAR was beaten 2.5L by Elegant Indi the last time they met and there’s no weight swings so she’ll need to keep improving. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – AZABELLE EACHWAY RACE 6 TRUE PLAYER looked pretty sharp in his most recent 950m trial (without blinkers). Lucy Fiore had him tucked away towards the rear and once he got clear he really extended nicely late. If you take the view that he’s not a wet tracker (4:0-0-0) then his career record is impressive for a 0MWLY and with the cutaway in play you can just imagine Pike carving his way through the field in the home straight. Looks a nice race for him to notch a first career fresh win. IDYLLIC RULER nearly won a C3 1400m first-up two preparations ago and like Chama earlier in the program, you don’t read much into trials when they’re ridden by junior riders, especially with a horse like this who can miss away and do things wrong. YOUGIVEMECHILLS was beaten a long way in his trial but there was actually plenty to like. Maps a treat. JUST LEROY is a wet tracker but he’ll burn across and ensure a genuine tempo. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – TRUE PLAYER WIN RACE 7 GOD’S GATE is really well placed by Neville Parnham, as a 60+ Graduation winner in a C3. Trialled without winkers and was somewhat tested by Steve Parnham but from barrier 1 he can lead or box seat and there’s a light Easterly forecast to be pushing the leaders along all day. If he’s anywhere near his best he should run well in this grade. QUEEN ARIA has come back in great order. For a mile maiden winner to get within a head first-up at 1100m was extremely encouraging and then you had to admire the way that she attacked the line over the last 200m of the race second-up when it looked like Bundaberg had her beat. EXCELINDEED was bitterly disappointing at his WA debut. Hopefully he can bounce back because his Victorian 3 year old mid-week form is good enough to win a C3. BEST MOOD trialled up really well for his new connections. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – GOD’S GATE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4,5,6,7,10 1,2,5 1,5,9 2,3,7,9,10 Market Market
