Scott Embry’s Friday Albany Preview Posted on December 9, 2025December 9, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LOVIN’ ON ME has her first start in the region for new trainer Paul Hunter. There was a barrier trial at Belmont in June where she beat home 3x winner Triple The Chant and it’s worth remembering she was kept safe as an $11 chance first-up in that prep down the 1000m straight in a 3 year old Saturday. Galway Shawl maiden form is good form too for a country starter. MISS FINKMEYER ran second in a recent 400m jump out and looked sharp. Darren McAuliffe’s horses went super at the recent Albany meeting and see no reason why it can’t be the same on Friday. CRASHED AND BURNED has the senior rider going on and did run well first-up without a trial. REGGIO CALABRIA does a bit wrong but is going along alright. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – LOVIN’ ON ME WIN RACE 2 LADY COCO deserves to break through and win one. She was huge two back when wide throughout and the Calathinite / Brave Wasp maiden is surely the strongest in the line-up? Last week again found one better in El Foxie but again ran well in defeat. Barrier an obvious concern but there’s not much between most of these. JOBETH’S PRAYER caught the eye last start at 100-1. Always hard to trust horses who have such a huge last start SP but love the way she got to the line. TANGO RHYTHM hasn’t been seen for 4 weeks since flopping as a $2.80 chance. The 600m trials are deceptive but she did look good? QUEEN SELYSE ran a ripper behind Sound Of Speed in a 3 year old maiden at Bunbury back in June. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – LADY COCO WIN RACE 3 REBELNADO looks to have found a really nice stepping stone towards heading to town. First-up 1675 (luckless), second-up 2000m maiden winner and now heads to a Country C2 in Albany over 1920m with a 2kg claim. Looks like he’s got a big stride and is clearly very aerobic. Might be a breakout preparation for him. MISTER POPCORN can stay (3100m winner) and so that will give Alex Hearn the opportunity to put the foot down and pull the trigger if they look to rack and stack down the back straight. Screams mid-race move. ALMAYA won a C1 1800 at Ascot only three back and then ran second to Opal Tango in a C3. Reproduces either of those and goes well. GINGERQUEST is 1500 back to 1200 out to 1900. Bizarre prep but has ability. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – REBELNADO WIN RACE 4 FANTAXTIC won really well last start in a C2 1000 and this line up doesn’t look any harder, in fact given that we’ve rolled into December he now only has to concede half a kilo to Our Naughty Secret for beating her by 1.4L. Makes him very hard to beat again. OUR NAUGHTY SECRET is the obvious danger on paper and should only improve second-up and with an extra 100m. She’ll win a few this prep. MAGICASH is not racing at the peak of her powers but this is another drop in grade for her. CRUISE TO RIO hasn’t raced for nearly 12 months and is presented by Tim Stone first-up no trial but her runs in C1 and C3 company last preparation were easily good enough to win a few races in Albany. May just need the run. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – FANTAXTIC WIN RACE 5 KING CARTEL looks an ideal lower end of weight scale 70+ type. Won a 70+ under Nitika Riordan two back carrying 51.5kg and then under 59kg was no match late for emerging 3 year old Reconnaissance. Think back to 70+ and back to 53.5kg is the right move from Paul Hunter. Will get the company of Gift Of The Heart / Avoidance / Oxbridge but he’s got the weight pull and he can hand up if necessary. FLICK THE SWITCH ran third to him two back and then ran second to Gift Of The Heart. She’s not quite as sharp (yet) as she was last prep. HENRY THE AVIATOR has been bouncing between c70+ and m60+ across his entire career and is competitive from 1100 to 1600m. OXBRIDGE is 67kg down to 63kg, but he’s a local cult hero and he’s a proven weight carrier. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – KING CARTEL WIN RACE 6 MAKIN PROPETS has been a handy acquisition for Alan Smith and the first two runs of the prep have been very promising. First-up without a trial at 1500m finished 3L off Our Nemesis (Grandstand Cup runner-up) and then last start ran second to Pure Chino (races at Ascot on Wednesday). Looks just about ready now third-up. POLYVANOVA is an honest on speed mare who has a senior rider back aboard and a senior rider who knows how to get the best out of her. Looks a really suitable map. COATACHINO powered away from them 8 days ago in a C2 and again has absolutely no weight on her back after the Giiaan O’Donnell claim. ASTONISHER is getting better with each run and Indianna Weinert’s team are flying. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – MAKIN PROPHETS WIN RACE 7 FLYING SOUTH is a nice horse. All four wins are at the Albany 1230m, he’s two from two undefeated, he’s trailled up well for his return and they’ll pour the speed on early for him to park up in behind and hopefully wind up over the top of them late. Always looked the kind of horse who could head to town one day and pinch a 60+ Graduation. PRETTY DEVINE is always super competitive when Mack Hall can find these 52+/58+ type races in the country. She clearly has a love affair with York but her last start third to Gift Of The Heart and Flick The Switch in a 70+ more than measures up here. Interesting to see if Giaan O’Donnell just puts the foot down and looks to clear them. INSYDE SUCCESS was a solid return and then was caught off the track second-up in a forgive. IMPOSING BROOK hasn’t won a race for over 700 days but did trial well. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – FLYING SOUTH WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,4 7,8,9 3,6,8 1,2 Market Market
