Digby Beacham’s AFL Preview: Grand Final

SATURDAY

Geelong v Brisbane, MCG, 12.30pm

In the glow of last Friday night, seemingly everybody was of the view that Geelong were the team to beat in the grand final. Many still feel that way, but the performance of Brisbane the next evening opposed to Collingwood made the football world pause for more than a moment.

The Lions’ best has long been regarded as the best in the competition. Can they produce it though in the face of adversity, chiefly a torrid injury list that now has Jarrod Berry added to it, albeit his omission being offset by the remarkable return from a calf tear of dual Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale?

The Cats broke down Brisbane’s uncontested marking game in the qualifying final only three weeks ago. It was a powerhouse display and one which showcased the offensive power of Chris Scott’s charges. Adjustments will be made, but whether Chris Fagan can implement enough of them with his available players remains the big question.

VERDICT: Geelong to win

Same Game Multi: Jeremy Cameron and Tyson Stengle to kick 2+ goals and Cam Rayner, Kai Lohmann and Shaun Mannagh to kick 1+ goals @ $8*

Norm Smith Medallist: Jeremy Cameron
