Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on September 11, 2025September 11, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CASINO ROYALE was put into the race by Elisha Whittington at Junction and only faded late behind Chest Out Swagger. Off 7 days, back to 1200m and shades come off. One more chance? IMPENDING FEATURE was supported at an eachway price last start and showed speed when leading over 1000m and did hold Scary Mary and Blitz to the line. Only two starts prior over 1200m finished second to Mystery Minute in a fast run maiden so this does looks a good chance for her to finally break through. BOUGHT AT THE BAR finished 2L off debut winner Think Pink Daze in a 1000m Lark Hill trial back in July. SCARY MARY has finished third on the grass at Bunbury over 1200m. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – CASINO ROYALE WIN RACE 2 GOLD SPY is the new kid on the block and making a real impression in the region. 1000m maiden win, 56+ 1200 win (4L faster than average) and then a C3 1400m win under 61.5kg. Given a 4 week freshen and brought back to 1200m he looks hard to beat dropping 6.5kg. His biggest obstacle might be barrier 1 and a face full of kick back. THE COOLAKIN KING is a ripper. He’s having his 13th run of the preparation, has covered more kilometres than most and yet still continues to win races. CHEEKY CHARLOTTE found the drop back to 1000m a bit sharp last start. Prior win at 1200m was excellent. PRINCE RAGNAR will come out running. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – GOLD SPY WIN RACE 3 OSCAR CHARLIE had his first start on the dirt for Aaron Pateman a fortnight ago and looked to love the conditions. He’s brilliantly placed here, as a last start 68+ winner dropping back into a 56+ and after the Holly Nottle claim he has 62kg but as a 5.5L winner at Narrogin with 60.5 have no issues tipping into him and backing him to prove simply too classy for rivals. WISE WORDS has been a consistent performer at Carnarvon for many a year and continues to race well. SHOOTING KONTIKI is having his 17th run of the campaign but may be wanting 1200 rather than 1000? RAGING BEAUTY enjoyed the dirt last season and is a rare first-upper. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – OSCAR CHARLIE WIN RACE 4 MYSTERY MINUTE has been raced sparingly recently by Zach Tyler. Broke his maiden 49 days between runs and has now been given another 43 days between outings to attack this C1 1200. Going to make the assumption that it’s by design and suggest he can go back to back. GINGER JIVE finds this lengths easier than her third behind The Coolakin King and Wise Words last start. LE TROY has run second three times since breaking his maiden (beating Mystery Minute) back in May. He threw the race away at Junction when bombing the start. IMAGE OF PRO would be a big chance if he ran to anywhere near the level that saw him finish second to Gold Spy. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – MYSTERY MINUTE WIN RACE 5 BIG SHOTS gets out to 1400m and that looks the right move. Huge first-up run at Broome, solid when beaten under 3L in the Sprint on Cup Day and then couldn’t make up the ground behind The Coolakin King in a fast run 1200 last start. Think he’s ready now. LACEVINSKY was beaten on the post in a heartbreaker two starts back by Plato Or Plomo and then backed up off 6 days into Junction when leading and winning. He’s now on the 7 day spin so the old boy has done plenty of racing in a short amount of time but it’s hard to knock both the way he’s going and the way Natika is riding him. CHOICE BID drops 4kg and maps soft. TRADED CROWN continues to tease. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – BIG SHOTS WIN RACE 6 GAMBLERS GOLD ran third in the Broome Cup in 2024 before winning the Carnarvon Cup 21 days later. This time around he ran second to King Mahuta in the Broome Cup and 28 days later is heading back to defend his Carnarvon Cup Crown. There’s 8x Pateman runners between Darryn & Aaron but think he’s the best of them. OUTSPOKEN LAD heads up to Carnarvon to attack the Cup and it’s always difficult to assess horses having their first start on the dirt, even if they’re coming off the Fibre Sand at Bunbury like him. HAFEY won the Junction Cup last week but Kate Pateman rides TROOPER PHOENIX. WAR CLASS has now won three on the bounce. Can’t discount the 10yo? Numbers: 3 – 2 – 12 – 4 Suggested Bet – GAMBLERS GOLD WIN RACE 7 KINGS SICARIO was given a 12/10 by Natika Riordan last start as she saved all the ground and snuck up in behind Street Maschino on straightening. Quite simply if she can reproduce the ride and the horse can reproduce the run at 1700m then it’s hard to see them turning the tables. AWESOME LILY gets 1kg on him and from the draw should get the right run to become the main danger. STREET MASCHINO will do his thing and roll along from the start and get them chasing. JIDDO couldn’t take the step up against the Cups horses. This is far more winnable. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – KINGS SICARIO WIN Market Market
